Goal was early 30s.. just got offered >6 figs recently. I was low 50s like 2.5 years ago. Didn’t think it would happen and still feel incredibly lucky to have earned even just the interest of such an offer
Man I was 26 when I got out of the Marine Corps.
So not even close to some of you young bucks. I think I was 29 as a contractor in Afghanland. Came back from overseas and back to school at 31 and added a couple of bachelors and an MBA and was over 6 figures again at 33
28, felt like a failure because I thought I'd be in the prime of my NBA career
28. My goal was to make it before 30. So I felt accomplished. By my own standards. No one else’s
At 31 was making $91K. Offered $135K at 32. Felt f’ing awesome. Was planning our wedding and the extra income was huge
I’d say be greatful guys and gals, I consider myself blessed and were in great times to be consultants. And you all that are young are definitely ahead of the game right now. Eventually spending will change jut like everything does, make sure you do right by your future with the money you make now and ensure you’ll be in a good spot when things do slow down a bit.
Realize I sound like a grandad here but it’s the truth!
OW seems to pay similar or greater than MBB at the early levels. At Deloitte, only the very very top performers will make 100k after three years, so at the start of their fourth year (likely consultant 2 or SC1). Most really good to average performers won’t hit that until after their fourth or fifth year. Deloitte underpays loyalty and overpays external hires. Kind of a broken system
25, had no goal lol 😂
29, went from $80k to $135k. Was hoping to get there by 29/30. It’s been life changing.
Offered 6 figs to join big 4 after law school and 3 years before that around 35/40k so it was I was ecstatic!
At 28, never had any goal except to stick to the grind and make my parent proud.
I hear that, just hit it @ 26. Goal was also by 30
25 - I had no expectation. First job out of college paid 43k. Four years later my salary more than doubled (didn’t start in big4). I was happy to reach 90.
OW,
You may want to understand the ages of the people posting. You have to factor in inflation. 10 years ago, what did 6 figures equate to
21... base plus bonus
Surprised at the ages here given our profession. It'd be difficult at our firm to not exceed 100k by 24-25. Is progression that much slower at other firms or is this just not a representative sample of the industry?
At 27 was making $66K , offered $130k .Felt like on top of the world. 😉😉
First time i made 300k was at 27 - fresh buck out of Mba school working on buying oil companies for a pe firm. Now i am 33 making 250k so definitely something happened along the way.
26... it felt like I hit the f*cking lottery. Was one of my proudest accomplishments until I made Manager (Deloitte) the next year. Didn’t have a salary goal (only goal was “married with a baby and on my way out of working world by 30”), but that early taste of success drove me to value my financial independence and career success more than I ever imagined possible.
29, same goal as the others.
