As a new joiner.. is micromanaging the culture at all Big four firms ? Or does it depend on what service line your in?

Asking here bc I think culture plays a huge part. Is anyone from affluent family background but dating someone whose fam is lowerclass w/ lower-paying profession? How do you deal with fam disapproval?

Incoming 1st yr BigLaw associate (V50 in a big city). I am curious if there are networking benefits to having expensive work clothes/accessories. I went to school on scholarship so I don’t have tons of debt, but my parents aren’t rich so much of the culture is foreign to me. I have hobbies I would rather spend my discretionary income on. But if having a Rolex or wearing Brooks Brothers suits would improve my standing w partners or if dressing cheaper would hurt, then I’d suck it up. Pls advise

And the other offer has a good pay and good designation (Associate Consultant) rather than the one I choose. Now i feel very low due to this decision that I took. I’m returning back to work this week from maternity leave and wondering what to do as far as nursing/pumping. Our 5 month old isn’t on a schedule right now and nurses on demand (every ~2 hrs or so). My husband will be watching him for the next few weeks, followed by a nanny so I could continue nursing. Do you think it would be better to try and put baby on a schedule and block off time for nursing? Is it realistic to nurse on demand while working? Switch to pumping?

This work we do is all consuming. I am good at what I do and also very tired. I have a group of excellent women leaders I work with (agency and client side) and I am just sometimes baffled at how little empathy they have over the need to show up at 120% absolutely 100% of the time. I understand there are many drivers and accomplished professionals in the industry but wish we can also be more human in what we expect of each other.

Inequality is not gonna be fixed by agencies overnight. Agencies still need qualification, and unfortunately that is still unequal as well.

We need to hire POC right now. Promote them. Give them important roles.

That’s just one step.

The biggest step is fighting for equal qualification. While we keep the bias out, we need to make sure we are helping young POC to have access to tools and training.

That will give agencies a much larger database to hire diversity and fix the problem.
