Anything west of 100 is solid. In GV you’ll have an easy commute to downtown Minneapolis. I live farther out than GV and rarely struggle getting into downtown Minneapolis. Most of my peers live south of golden valley in St. Louis park.
Similar area would be St Louis Park which might have more housing options.
I live downtown and love it! North Loop also has a ton of condos and apartments. My sister and a coworker live in GV, like 10 mins to downtown.
Great if you don't mind living in an apartment or a 100 year old house.

How is the traffic? Is there much reverse commute traffic? My job prospect would be in the GV area, and I’m hesitant looking beyond the immediate area. My commute the last nine years has been 10-15 minutes each way, and I have to tell you that not spending two hours commuting every day is life changing.
100 and 169 can be messy around 55 and 394 but otherwise you should have no trouble if you aren't trying to go to mpls for work. If that ever changes and you do work downtown mpls, bus or mnpass should be considered.
