How’s the legal market looking? Hearing about job freezes and layoffs coming. Is it a bad time to try and lateral? Tri state market.

I just found out I’ll be getting laid off in a month. I’ve contemplated freelancing for a while but haven’t worked on more than 1-2 small clients at a time on the side of work. How do I know when it’s the right time to take the plunge into freelancing?

With so much uncertainty in the economy and waves of layoffs that have hit tech especially hard... do we think there's really such a thing as a recession-proof job anymore if you're not an "essential worker"?

However the agency itself is not doing well- no new biz wins, big layoffs recently, terrible reviews on Glassdoor. I like my current agency enough, however, very much don’t like the 2 execs I assist. Would you go rather work for good execs at a bad agency? Or stay at a decent agency but awful execs?

They told me that I don’t have the “mental acuity to be a lawyer,” but as a fifth year at a V30 something just clicked. I just got the first positive evaluation of my professional life. How can someone be so out of touch? The recent most billable hours post, inspired me. What is your longest billable day? Mine was 56 hours straight with no break—and the partner was more than a jerk when I was saying no more at the 30 hour point. That was two 24 hour billable days back to back on my time sheet and on the bill, a 360 hour month, and 650 aggregated for two months. And it is one reason (of so many reasons) why this job can suck so much! At least I got a good bonus...

There's a misconception among attroneys that I never understood. To a point hard work will bring success but if you can't bring in business then you have nothing to work hard on. You eventually have to kill your own food. Why do people not understand this.

Has anyone dealt with appealing NJ Unemployment disqualification of benefits? Specifically when almost a year has lapsed since receipt of benefits and now NJDOL is demanding full repayment of same. At least one appeal has been written and rejected by recipient of benefits (friend in health care) and they are now requesting assistance.
