HR question. When switching companies and the new company has a 30 day waiting period before health insurance starts, how do y'all handle insurance coverage? Cobra wouldn't be an option as resigning doesn't qualify.

I resigned and that qualified me for Cobra. It can take awhile to get set up and often ends up being retroactively activated so wouldn’t schedule any non-necessary outpatient care but you would ultimately be covered.

I had insurance through the market place in school. It was good coverage.

I’ve qualified for and paid for COBRA twice in the past after resigning from both jobs.

like

Can you not wait 30 days? You could try marketplace insurance for a month.

I was offered cobra when I resigned as well. But the paperwork took a bit to come in so I’m sure you can contact them

You can purchase short term insurance - priced for the short term.

Your should be able to get Cobra even if you resign

So, we had a new female employee start in Accounting this week and this morning she was inquiring about Maternity Leave because she is a little over three months pregnant. Her boss is livid claiming she lied to us by not disclosing she was pregnant during the interview process. I tried explaining to the manager about the legality of the situation when he blurted out that he wouldn’t have hired her if he had known she was expecting… he said this loud enough that the employee in question and the rest of the department overheard… so anyway I’m looking forward to spending my weekend preparing for the litigation that is sure to come.

I am debating on accepting a new role. It pays significantly more than I make now but they do not offer paid maternity leave. My current job does. They stated that I would have to use short term disability (which only covers a portion of my pay) and all PTO/Sick leave. I am hoping to start trying this year but, I want to make sure that I am covered. My spouse is a teacher so there’s no way he could cover things in case of an emergency. Any experience with pregnancy and not paid maternity leave?

Has anyone negotiated pay at a hospital or company that states they have different levels/tiers of fixed pay for so-and-so profession and can’t budge? I’ve worked in other fields prior to healthcare and have a hard time believing every (pick profession like PT) gets paid exactly (pick random number like $72,345). I’m skeptical because it sounds like “we have levels/tiers of fixed pay and can’t budge” is just an excuse to shut down negotiation right away. Can anyone share their experience?
