Good lord. Please don’t get me started on the privileged hypocrisy that is Taylor Swift. Not a role model for my children, esp as a women of color. Please don’t. Her brand of feminism is not the one I want to promote.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I know there are some valid criticisms, but overall I think Taylor is a good role model and undeserving of the extreme negative reactions she garners. She writes and performs her own songs, she’s maintained an overwhelmingly wholesome persona despite growing up in the spotlight and having every aspect of her existence scrutinized, and she has more recently begun to use her stardom for positive social change. For those who criticize her for hanging out with supermodels and having a “squad,” she also has promoted body positivity and inclusivity through many of her song lyrics, guests at concerts, and activities. I’m not saying Taylor Swift is someone to idolize, but I don’t think the extremely negative reactions to her factor in many of the positive things she’s promoted and accomplished.
I think any feminism brands are worth promoting! We’re all different and we need different narratives. The more women we hear from, the better. It’s helps us not be pigeonholed as “all women"
Not to mention her being caught in a lie or stretching of the truth literally multiple times over the last year. Just not a role model by any means for someone of a platform that large.
Think about her positive social change. You need to calm down song for example was rife with an lgbtq promotion that was very much in line with her agenda - belittling it to equate it with her and Katy Perry’s strife. There are better ways to promote social change, and Taylor Swift should not be the face of it. Even if her presence drives awareness, its often the wrong kind / the biased kind / the comfortable kind - when sometimes people need to see the uncomfortable side of discrimination and pain to fully understand how they consciously or unconsciously contribute to bias. Taylor seems to have no self awareness here, and I find that even more dangerous. So no, I’m sorry. We can agree to disagree but there are FAR more interesting role models promoting social change and exposing discrimination for the reality that it is, instead of cookie cutter and covered in glitter. She can stick to being a great song writer if she wants, but if she’s going to choose to be a political advocate in anyway, she needs to understand different perspectives. She simply does not.
Haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate 😂🎶
