We’ve been working for about 19 years. I had about $130k of student loan debt that I had to pay off and we had some high medical bills for a few years that ate up savings, so we’re probably on the slower side for PA. I think that’s why it’s so exciting to me. We’ve come a long way!
Congrats! It’s so awesome to hear stories like this, especially the part where you overcame student loans and medical bills. Very exciting!
My wife and I also became millionaires about 2 years ago. I’ve been working about 18 years, but I went to law school. She’s been working about 14 years, but in the medical field. Our house now represents about 1/3 of our total wealth of $1.2m. We don’t have any debt, including a mortgage.
Congrats! How many years did you guys work?
How much of your wealth is in the home you occupy? You’re not a true millionaire unless you can access it in cash without going homeless. I mean hooray for you!
@PwC1 I paid off my student loans about 12 years after I graduated. I made it a huge mission to get them paid off as quickly as I could. The day I made my final payment was a huge day for me!
@KMPG1 we just sold our house and got a big chunk of cash from the equity. It’s actually why we were looking at all of our assets. We’re renting for now while we learn about our new city (we relocated for work). So, we have the cash and aren’t homeless! 😁
Very happy for your family. This is a great achievement. Be proud.
@OP how long did it take you to pay off your student loans? I recently graduated with about $110k. I have a plan but I'm curious to hear what experience.
humble brag
^same for us, although combined will jump to 300k+ this year and 400k+ in 2020 from bonus vesting.
This post makes me happy! 👩🏽👨🏽💸💸💸💸
OP I don’t think you are behind. I only gave $120k in 401k and stocks after 8.5 years of working. I have huge mortgages and most of my money goes into paying it down..
Did you tax effect the 401(k) because it’s really only worth about 70% if it’s value?
Yay for you! No kids is key though! Kids are EXPENSIVE!!!
May I ask what your combined income is, as I'm guessing right now you're at the highest you've ever been?
@EY3 our combined income is around $250K a year and it’s been in that range for the past few years.
KPMG1, don’t assume. My 401k is a Roth one, maybe the same for OP.
OP, how many kids do u have?
EY5, we don’t have kids.
