Huge props to all of you folks in long-term relationships. No idea how you make it work through busy season.

WFH has made it easier since we see each other more often. He is very supportive and has a few TV series that I hate, so he's happy he gets to binge them now.

Yep I agree here. Working late hours isn’t “so bad” when you can sit and talk with them at the same time.

Married with a kid. I love my job and will put in the hours but I always prioritize family obligations. I leave work to do family stuff (dinner and putting son down) then get back online.

It’s important to remember even at your busiest times (perhaps especially then) to show gratitude and thanks to the non-PA relationship partner

It helps that we both have busy jobs so were both understanding and we don't require tons of attention from each other. I could imagine there being some tension if one of us wasn't always busy.

Notice these projects are primarily staffed by younger non-married people? It’s not a coincidence.

like

This is literally in our business model. Projects are primarily staffed with associates and a decreasing level of management at each level up to partner. Yes there are workaholic partners, but generally the grind is done by young associates who either advance or eventually throw in the towel and go to industry. Once people have kids or get married or have any kind of commitment outside of work the willingness to grind it out on a constant basis declines and this makes sense. The reality is a PA salary below partner does not allow for a stay at home spouse and a middle class lifestyle.

Yeah it definitely helps since we don’t have to worry about misunderstandings over how “busy” busy season is

I think in long term relationships you just have to realize that there is a give and take at times. During busy season, I’m not able to give 100% of my best to my relationship but there’s other times where my partner can’t give his best. So my partner is doing the heavy lifting around our house and for our relationship, knowing that my turn will come around and I’ll do the same.

My ex-boyfriend was also an accountant and we both going through busy seasons at the same time while living together (WFH) and was very detrimental to our relationship. Us both having the same career in general was actually been pretty toxic and it was almost as if it were a competition at times

I can definitely see how that could happen

We’re both accountants so we knew what to expect.

Not so much an MBA question per-say but I see that some BS have smaller, focused “boot camps” Ex: Kellogg has one in digital marketing that requires 4-6 hrs every week for 2 months. Anyone recommend these types of classes? Are they work the cost? Did you find that they advance your career?
