Healthcare Consultants

Huron or Navigant? Why?

OP, you’re going to get biased perspectives for both on here. I’d recommend you look through Glassdoor reviews for both. Like read ALL the reviews for both. That’s what I did to get a more compressive picture for both. At this time, Huron is doing very well. Killing it in market, hiring aggressively, comp is being adjusted (ie going up) practice wide, etc. So I’d say it’s a better place than Navigant. However, it was the complete opposite case just a few years ago. Point being, go to whichever one you personally like the most. Sometimes one company will be up, other times the other will be up. The market (and clients) perceive both firms very well. While both N&H have other practices, both are known as “top HC consulting firms” in the general market. :)

Director and Senior Director is $160 and $210, respectively. Both have a 30% bonus (adjusted per person based on merit & company performance). Though I’ve heard rumors that healthcare-wide salaries are going up, TBD if that’s actually true...

Biased Huron employee here, but I would also be curious to hear what area EY is talking about. I've been here a few years and have done a number of Navigant clean up projects. Not to mention their people are aggressively applying to us

Navigant, can honestly say we’re never worried when we’re up against Huron. Navigant has a solid group.

Any specific service offering/group (rev cycle, strategy, etc) or all around?

Hi all - I have worked at Navigant and Huron. While each firm has their own culture and approach to consulting, what it always comes down to is your leadership and who you work with. I have been lucky to have amazing leaders and colleagues at both firms, but Huron (hands down) genuinely follows their values. At the end of the day, that is what matters.

I think you hit the nail on the head with it being about the leadership and coworkers you were exposed to. I’ve also worked at both companies and there is obviously a reason I left Huron and am now enjoying Navigant much better. Everyone has varying experiences!

H3 that really depends on which business unit they came from - there was a mass exodus of Huron people to Navigant’s Revenue Cycle practice just two yrs ago who now LOVE the culture and collaboration at Navigant.

I disagree that Huron is king when it comes to Revenue Cycle, especially in the post bolt on tool implementation world they are living in.

Why are you all squabbling like children. None of you are owners of these companies. (I am not talking about piddly company stock.) Argue like this when it is your own company that you have work so hard to build. Until then, you should know you are just a number at a company who should be watching out for yourselves first...as most companies watch out for themselves first, I.e, RIFS

The organizations are pretty damn similar. I was at Nav Rev Cycle a few years ago when we brought in about 10 ex-Huron over the course of about a year. They seemed to like it better but the culture was similar. I can’t speak to clinical side, but from a pure market perspective it seems that the two are on very even footing

N4 good point - I am not in Rev Cycle and our Rev Cycle practice has an “old school” rep (less flexible w travel etc)

We have very distinct business units with some overlap, but projects are highly specialized. What kind of work are you interested in?

Real talk, the Klass report on Healthcare management consulting firms consistently pegs Navigant above Huron. As far as Rev cycle, Huron is king.

Curious ... I left Navigant in 2012 as an AD. The culture and leadership there was awful. They were growing by acquisition and did not know how to handle the various viewpoints. Has this improved?

We just hired 3 Navigant people into our group. They are struggling with our implementation work (more hard core daily grind than they’re used to), but all LOVE the culture and collaboration at Huron.

Huron, unless you are looking for a salary stepping stone. Navigant is still experiencing the aftermath of the McKinnis realignment. In the last six to nine months, I have seen plenty of resumes of Navigant employees ranging from 6 months to 3+ years of experience.

True, regarding my McKinnis comment. When it comes to resumes, they have also come from the clinical folks.
