I was asked by a friend for a few management consultant books (similar to liar's poker in the finance industry) to check out. The only one I can think of is Peter Drucker's Adventures of a Bystander (good but not too much consulting)... any suggestions! 😁
Reposting in this bowl since it’s a little more active and I’m desperate for input. My little sister is being raised in a less than ideal environment and has already been through some trauma before I met her/ before her mom got with my dad. Outside of opening a UTMA account for her, is there anything else I can do to ensure she has what she needs to leave as soon as she’s 18?
Tried to help an older lady take her luggage down the stairs at Union Station (Chicago). She panicked and held onto her luggage very tight. On hindsight, (cont)
Have you cleaned out your closet since the pandemic started? I feel like there’s a lot of unnecessary stuff in there now....and I am thinking minimalist for post-COVID couture. What are your classic go-to’s?
Any other staff feeling like they might try to leave audit earlier than they planned to? Love my firm, but WFH is brutal and the people I’ve formed connections with have mostly left or WFH 99% of the time which leads to less social interaction with them. I figured I’d stick it out for 3 years or so, but with another busy season looming in a few months I’ve started looking at other roles through my network, and wasn’t sure if I was the only one.
KPMG is taking the PWC approach to audit layoffs. Low performers will be separated rather than defining a RIF, but we all know it’s a lay-off by another name.

Hiring Managers: if you have a candidate who has done the exact same job before and interviewed well, and another candidate who hasn’t done the exact same job before but has transferable skills, what would make you pick the second candidate? When I get feedback from interviews, it’s often ‘we are looking for someone who has done this role before’, and I don’t know how to move into a slightly different career if I can’t seem to land a job to begin to get experience in it.
Anyone have experience interviewing for a GCS role with Google? Or any experience in the role itself?
Any budget friendly WFH chair recommendations? Was looking at a gaming chair, but bad reviews have put me off.
First time needing to edgarize a document (my practice is ECVC and have a client doing a Reg CF raise). Am I right in assuming that it’s just converting a Word doc or PDF doc into an SEC-specific format? Any recs on service providers? Would love a cloud-based self-serve tool and understanding of how pricing is supposed to work.
Anyone who transferred to Deloitte Consulting from another Big 4 Tax? I heard Deloitte has a big M&A tax group
Does anyone know if it’s possible to get a long term Marriott rental in NYC and still get points? I’ve heard W Residences may have offered this at one point.
What sort of salary range would make sense (aka is livable) for an Account Director in LA?
Accounting bowl, kpmg just announced we’re finally getting 2 shutdowns, one at calendar YE and one around July 4th. They will do so by moving 5 PTO days into the holiday calendar. How would you feel?
Being proposed on a project with someone I’ve filed an HR complaint against. Pursuing the opportunity will put my health at risk, manager was not supportive. Advice?
