Generally, I would say yes. There are sooooo many ideas running through my head as to why this wouldn’t ever be feasible based on food scarcity / desserts and unsafe neighborhoods for exercise, eve setting aside the cost issue, but I support the concept. For me, the enforcement would have to be skin in the game as far as insurance premiums or co-pays or something else health-related.

It’s so funny reading these nonsense posts. You can practically see the grin on the conservatives faces as they press post. “Oh I got these libz this time!” You all could save yourselves a ton of embarrassment if, instead of rushing to post whatever nonsense you just heard from Ben Shapiro or some other smooth-brained grifter you think is smart, you took 30 seconds to think critically about the point you think you’re making.
I don't think there's anything embarrassing about an idea that people should live healthier lives. I think it is embarrassing that people in this thread can't answer a simple question with a straight face. Here's another example that is even more simple: Do you think drugs should be banned for recreational purposes like meth and heroine? And if so do you think alcohol and tobacco products should be banned for recreational purposes? What's so difficult about answering those questions?

Oh, no. Your super subtle vaccine mandate analogy is really going to trip us up.

In this hypothetical, are out of shape Americans able to instantly spread their poor fitness to others by simply being in close proximity to them? If so, I would say yes, such a government mandate might be appropriate!

“Industrialized genocide”. As in the Holocaust, something you might try learning literally the first thing about before you start blithely tossing around inappropriate comparisons to it.

Keep government out of people’s lives. Opposed vehemently

D1; are you being sarcastic?
Curveball: “fines” enforced via higher or lower insurance premiums. Does that change your view?
In the given hypothetical I think that would work fine, although idk if low income people have much tax withholdings? The spirit of this is to get people healthier so just imagine whatever civil penalties that aren't cruel and unusual yet still compelling enough that most Americans will follow through with the mandates 😊
Jacobson v. Massachusetts already gives the government standing to enact vaccine mandates. So take it up with the SCOTUS. Been over 100 years and people haven't been trying to overturn it since.
Is the analogy in the room with you right now? What is it saying?

Sooooo, the US left hasn’t actually been proposing anything to limit your political speech? It’s just in Europe?

No. Obesity, heart disease, etc. are not communicable diseases. It’s a bit brash to say, but I could care less if anti-vaxxers *only* killed themselves off with diseases that are easily preventable by modern medicine. The problem is that we live in a society next to each other, and they invariably transmit these viruses to other people, including some who cannot be inoculated.

P1– I respect this position, as a Dem.
Against. The government should not be telling people what to eat or how to be healthy. I do weight lifting three times a week and hate salad, but am pretty fit.

I heard Japan does something like this. They weight men over age 40 and if their BMI is too high, the company gets fined by the government.
My cousin has a business in Japan. We talked about it a few years ago because I found it interesting. Business gets a small fine, people move on. Does the public shaming push people to lose weight, yeah, is it a big deal, no.
I am against this. It’s far more invasive than any of the public health interventions in the pandemic, and has no clear overriding interest why your actions affect others.
Idk the world would be better if instead of telling people they looked great we said yes you look fat you are fat it’s unattractive get healthy.
