Hi Fishes, I got an offer from Infosys and my joining date is on March 1st. . Since my current employer didn't accept my resignation as I was in emergency leave, I will need to serve notice period until April 1st. . Auto upgrades won’t work for Peru. Need SWU and SWU can only be used on non- award travel. The timeline should be fine
You’re talking about your ticket? You should buy now, once you make exp call in to apply a SWU. No free upgrades for international flights, you have to use an SWU. I assume it should easily clear on an MIA or DFW to LIM route.
Warning - the flight to Lima is usually a 757. Hopefully it will at least be an international config or else you’ll be in a normal domestic first class seat. This may not be a good use of your SWU.
LIM is a 757 intl or 767, but it’s a rather short flight and may not be worth the SWU. Consider your upcoming travel and whether your SWU might be put to better use for an upcoming trip.
Using either automatic upgrades or my 4 system-wide upgrade to get on first class. The trip is intended for Jan-4 so it’d be 2 weeks before making it to EP. First time that will make EP, is this a sound strategy?
Still figuring this out: do I get 4 SWUs for 2018 and then another 4 when the 2019 kicks in for a total of 8? Or do my 2018 SWUs “go to waste” if i don’t use them before 2019 rolls in
You get 4 when you hit EP that will expire when your status expires (end of Jan 2020 if you hit this year). You have the opportunity to earn 2 more at 150 and another 2 at 200 EQM’s

The 777-300 has the best J product. But honestly it’s less about the aircraft and more about the duration, at least for me, unless you’re on an overnight redeye.
Yeah anything with a lay flat is relatively comparable for aa as far as marginal value for SWU goes.
OP I mostly use my SWU on Intl three class 77W or transcon LAX-JFK to upgrade from business to first, would agree that some lesser aircraft and routes aren’t worth it. Although if it is only way to get demanding SO in FC then you do what you have to 🤣
