Hypothetically, if you send a draft to someone and had to wait at your desk for a response, do you bill that time you are waiting?

What kind of question is this. Don’t bill this convo, even tho it “involves” your matter in which you’re inquiring about. Bar police 🚨

If it's past 10pm and you have to be up to turn it that night I believe the answer is yes

like

10pm is just a reasonable time, even for a corporate ladder climber, to need sleep. If work prevents that, you are doing so on behalf of the client to turn work product.

Lol no, you can work on another matter in that time frame. Or go take a shower or a nap. You have your phone to check emails.

Do you have to sit at the desk or can you watch Netflix or something

Imo unless it’s the weekend or after normal hours then no.

Do you mean for opportunity cost on something urgent? As in you were there for the purpose of being available as soon as it came back? I think that is appropriate given it’s billed in sufficient detail

Has anyone else’s Corp cut services to G/T because of the pandemic? Mine has, and I am absolutely heartbroken for the kids. They need services now more than ever. However they keep hiring SpEd positions and offering more services for SoEd students because they say the need is greater. How can the needs for one end of the spectrum be greater than the other? Without laws, what can we do to ensure gifted students get the education they need and deserve? Suggestions?

I’m looking for advice on finding a new job as a paralegal. I just recently got my paralegal certificate in May 2021 and have been working as a paralegal for a Sole Practitioner since August, but had to make the decision to leave because I’m not making enough money to support myself. I have experience in Plaintiff’s work doing mostly personal injury, but have handled other types of cases, too. I don’t have much experience in this field thus far and would appreciate any advice I can get.

Biglaw parents with infants who use formula, I’m not sure how you are keeping it all together. I had a free weekend and my friends didn’t, so I (foolishly) offered to look for their formula since they’re running super low. I went to 20 stores (5+ hours and probably 100 miles of driving) before I found the formula they need for their kid (needs a special type of formula for health reasons).

First year associate at a v10 firm in a major market. I was a 3L hire into a specialized corporate group. I spent my summer associateship at a big law firm doing a combination of Lit and Corp, but was heavily leaning lit after my summer. I needed to change firms after my summer so I could move cities to be closer to family with health issues, which is why I accepted a corporate offer b/c no one was hiring for lit. Fast forward a few months and I’m miserable doing corp. work. I miss lit. (Cont.)

I am a first year currently in a corporate m&a practice doing some privacy work. I have the opportunity to transition to 100% privacy work if I want, but I am torn. I do really like privacy work. However, I was really only planning to stay in big law long enough to be marketable in-house. I'm worried that I will be less marketable if I become a privacy specialist so soon. Am I overthinking this? Should I just lean in to what I like?

Biglaw has completely shredded my confidence as a lawyer; I lateraled into biglaw from a smaller firm feeling keen and confident with some independent wins under my belt. Worse, it’s not because I’m doing a complicated area of law; it’s because I don’t feel like I fit in socially or tire of expectations that seem frivolous or unrealistic. How do you find yourself again after big law? I don’t even know who I am anymore or what value I bring.
