What would you do? I was laid off and now have two directions:
1) Back to old job in industry with security and knowing what I’m getting/how to do the job well/job security but $15k reduction in salary plus nominal API still working 60+ hrs a week...
2) Consulting again at big 4 but don’t know team and threat of unpredictability/more layoffs but $25k increase in salary.

Here is my issue. I left my firm this summer for an opportunity I should have known was to good to be true. I realized it wasn’t what I was led to believe. Was able to return to my old firm. The return was “a favor”. But includes conditions. I am not happy, and need a change and honestly more money now rather than in 6-8 months. Mechanical engineering grad, joined a medical device startup that I had done co-ops at. 8mo into full-time, pivoted from engineering into more of an operations role doing new product introduction (NPI), now with 3 direct reports.

I’m new to this startup and was leading a cross functional project involving several other product teams with dependencies. When we got near the end with E2E testing, I realized that none of the product teams really do QA: no test scripts, not logs of dev unit testing, no documentation of testing cycles – there devs asked “what do we do about edge cases?” I raised this to my boss (since I don’t manage those other teams) and he said I’m creating unnecessary stress for the teams. i’m in a pickle

i have a job where the work is okay, but i cannot stand my coworkers. there’s been so much undermining and rudeness that, even though we’re in a slower slow time, i have so much built up resentment i still don’t like my job.

i also don’t like the permanently remote nature of the job (wasn’t remote when i joined), and feel like im getting pigeon-held into low value work (compliance, provision, fixed assets etc.)

am i reacting too emotionally for wanting to leave?
