I lost all the motivation to work. It got to the point where I sometimes feel like quitting this corporate race. Now with this low motivation, I don’t know if making this switch will make me feel even worse. I am also concerned about this whole new change in new location, having have to start over. I think about what the new team will be like, the new work & manager be like. I keep thinking although I won’t know until i really start. Any advice? I am on a Visa so, it isn’t easy to switch back nor to take some time off. 😓

Hey take it and let’s go man. Take the 40-48 hour work week and get your mental health in order. People complain about HCOL cities but man just live within your means, practice minimalism and you’ll be happy.

If the rest is RSU, you will have to live off your base. I have a feeling that your cost of living will be more than 10% higher.

like

Uh take it man

Lower base and lot of RSU is common in tech. Looks like a great jump! Congrats!! You will love SF/Bay area.

like

it's done now, but you could 've pushed for 20-30% increase to your current base during your negotiation (wouldnt have been a stretch, unless you are already at 150-180 k) .. your RSUs might vest over a 2-5 year period.... so unless you are planning to stick to that firm for that duration, you might want to reconsider ... ( especially with the visa reducing mobility)

L1, that’s right. I have 1 year cliff followed by quarterly vesting there after.

Moving to Tech and SF was the best decision I ever made in my life. I left consulting at $80K from the Midwest to take a job earning $110K in Tech. Cost of living adjustment wouldn’t have been justified, but just really wanted to be here. Comp quickly rose with promotions and I’ve been very fortunate. Went from $110K -> $160K -> $180K -> $200K -> $220K -> $250K -> $350K in the span of 5 years There’s a lot of opportunity, especially if you are at a fast growing company.

Has anyone done adult teeth straightening in the city? is the in-network cost (approved fee but no insurance coverage) usually the same among different dentists? I was looking at the estimated fee from my insurer saying that the original cost is 8k, but since it’s an in-network dentist, the cost would be 4K, and I’m 100% responsible for it since I have no orthodontics coverage. Does this make sense?

Need advice. My mom has graciously offered to be full-time grandma daycare as I return to work. The problem is we have wildly different parenting styles and I really really want her to do it my way for a couple of the really important ones like nap schedules and feeding schedules. She flat out is ignoring me and we had a huge blowout fight where she pretty much said she didn't want to do this anymore. What should I do? Find a nanny that would do it my way? Or give in to my mom?
