I actually don’t know much about compensation increases that come with promotions. What does the typical % increase look like for an internal recruiter? Just trying to understand all of the things.

Often they are 6-10%. It should depend on where you are in the salary range and where you will be placed in the range of the new position. If the new role has a much higher range a promotion may be higher than 10% to get you within the née range.

It really all depends on your performance, your company’s performance, their budget for raises, and how much recruiting is actually valued where you work. My raises have been anywhere from 3-14% over the years and I have been a consistently high performer.

9% is pretty good, especially given the circumstances this year. It is tough, as the Sr. HR Director below mentioned, when you know you could leave for more money. I will likely max out on our pay band this year...I will have maxed out because I am a high performer. (Our structure doesn’t lend itself for me getting much higher than I am now) So, where does that leave me...not being compensated fairly for my performance or I leave b/c they can’t fairly compensate me....

meanwhile you could change jobs and expect a 10-20% increase.

Just trying to make sure it’s fair. Working to pay off loans and trying to save money (in case the world ends or something). I know that doesn’t tie to my job, but those are the things I worry/think about everyday. I grew up poor, so I’m used to money being an issue and a stressor, but I know I can LIVE without all of it especially if I see the growth opportunities that lead to a higher point of income.

It really depends on the company you work for. I advise you to ask for whatever you are wanting, but do research to make sure its realistic. Companies will either be able to give it to you or not, but expect less than what you ask for

Ended up with a 9% raise. It was JUST short of what I was looking for, so I’m good. Just wanted to make sure that seemed normal.

If I gave a salary range in my pre-screen and then got an offer in that range, can I negotiate higher? They said 70-80k. I said I’m look for something higher (more in the 90-100k) and they said that should be doable, but really I want something in the 110-120k range (gave a lowball bc didn’t want to turn them off in the first round). How do I got about asking for higher?
