Whether I agree or not, it's all just becoming part of the endless cacophony of noise. Unless it's super-smart or funny as hell, I honestly can't bring myself to give a damn what anyone says about much of anything anymore. Especially on twitter.
This? It's just...whatever. I applaud R/GA on their principled and heroic stance.
Please excuse me while I open Facebook, see all my friends on both sides losing their collective GD minds, and look for my Aunt's sickeningly sweet, inspirational love-is posts as a reprieve from the ridiculous nature of our current national discourse.
Normally, I’d say this is bad. They shouldn’t have a POV, it creates an unpleasant work environment for the people who disagree. I think if they had written this when W. or Obama was president, they would have caught a lot of heat.
That being said, these are unique times. Our president isn’t a disgrace because of his political leanings. He’s made it clear he’s a flaming trash pile of a human being, president or not. So, good for R/GA for not being afraid to take a stand
The account is written by a human being who has, in the past, taken a stance on many different issues. I have found he writes from the heart, his heart. Not everyone in the agency agrees with him I guarantee you, but good on him for continuing to write what he believes in and what strikes him in the moment.
One of these days thos guy is going to outright suggest ethnic cleansing and people will still say "I'm just tired of both sides losing their mind" and "not a great look for businesses to wade into this."
Your question was how would you feel if this was your agency and if you don’t agree. Well if someone doesn’t agree that victims of sexual assault shouldn’t be mocked, then honestly they’re a trash human being.
Wow - what a ballsy move to tweet something like that.
Virtue signaling is so played out. What do you want, a pat on the back from Alyssa Milano?
I’m so sorry for you guys over there. See, European here, we kind of like you, kind of love you, but MAN we miss the days when you weren’t such a laughingstock, when you had standards, when you did what’s right, when you were reliable partners, when most powerful meant hero not bully, when we dreamt about your music, your stars, your sports teams, wore base caps and Levi’s and tried to be a little like you.
I agree with a lot of what’s said above, my only addition is that if a creative agency is going to say something passionate/contentious, they could at least do it in a creative way
Saying the President is a disgrace is analogous to saying the sky is blue.
^ great take, because you know there are swaths of experience designers who are still after two years thoughtfully weighing their opinion on this administration and are therefore inherently more likely to produce quality work.
If this were a bank, idk. I’d rather not see it. But it’s an agency and since when is good creative not about taking a stance or POV?
@digitas 1 - not sure why you this quality XD will be effected by one persons twitter feed. That seems a tad nonsensical.
People who disagree with this sentiment deserve a lot worse than just being uncomfortable at work.
Tons of people in this thread clearly haven’t followed R/GA for long. Chapin has had the keys to the tweets for a while and has done an awesome job running the account. This isn’t the first time he’s tweeted about Trump being terrible. I assume if it was a problem for their biz, that would’ve been put to a stop a long time ago.
R/GA’s Twitter is one of the few agency handles I see non-marketing folks follow, so clearly they have a good grasp on what works.
RGA2 oOooOoOOo virtue signalling. Nice!!!!1!1
Doesnt make the statement wrong though
Virtue signaling tends to be empty support, I thoroughly believe Chapin thinks Mr Trump is a disgrace. And Alyssa Milano is as deep in her belief of, and in, the Metoo movement.
RGA is the best agency twitter account by a mile. They do what so many agencies want their clients to do on social media. I also would kill to work there, based on the quality of their account.
It’s good to see agencies get into politics.
