Which company would you join?
I currently work in Sales with the intention of moving over to marketing in the near future. I received two offers for BDR/SDR roles from Sprout Social and Gong. Both salaries are around the same (Gong - base 63k + anticipated $25k in commission, Sprout - 55k base + anticipated $25k in commission).
I like both companies’ software and it extremely hard to decide which position will get me into marketing faster as it is not a traditional BDR path to take.

Yes, always verify commissions. Mis-credited orders, calculation errors, complicated comp plans, etc can all cause incorrect payouts. It’s unfortunate, and yes, maybe your first job did things more smoothly.
Also, ask if your company has a “commissions portal” where you can see details on deals and amounts being credited to you - that’s an easy first validation step.
Unfortunately I think you were spoiled. Commissions used to be happily paid as they indicated sales. Now finance treats it as a cost to be minimized. Spend the time ensuring that your pay is correct
I agree completely. Finance doesn't see it that way and cuts people wherever they can. You'll be doing collections next! Lol I'm actually not kidding
I was really surprised when I moved to sales how I had to verify my comp, but I’m glad I did. They make mistakes all the time! I eventually created an excel where I track all my deals and comp. It took a lot of time to create, but now reviewing my deals every month takes only a few minutes. I’d say it was worth the time.

The more complex the comp plan, the more likely it is that there will be mistakes. It's your job to ensure that you're be compensated accurately.
Yep. Such a bad trend to complicate comp plans. Exposes financial involvement where they don't belong.
Totally agree with RD1. I know that it's our responsibility to check our comp. But I feel like these complex comp plans are designed to discourage employees from checking their comps. Or maybe it's just me.
The comp plans are being designed by finance who don't understand sales. They view everything through a "reduce the cost to the business" lens and don't care that it impacts sales
I would chalk it up to human error sometimes. But if it happens more often than I can count I'm blaming them for their mistakes.
