It depends on partners. I saw partner who work from 4am to 11pm almost daily. Also saw partners who took one month vocation
^agreed
These questions are tough because it's completely dependent on the partner. There are definitely line partners (i.e., execution partners) vs relationship partners that have the perfect blend of EQ/IQ. Some people can see see the patterns/big picture while others have made the conclusion that the only way to win is work more hours than everyone else. The latter generally drives employee retention issues. My mentors have healthy lives outside of work, but there for sure are partners that have terrible situations. One guy in my practice delayed his marriage for years because he was scared to miss a rep with his client. I think everyone at SM has to step back and evaluate if they can do it better than those before them.

^agree with this 100%. Work for guys that love nothing more than crushing diligence 80 hours a week and aren’t very involved with their kids and work for guys that are hyper involved with their families and have good balance. Most of it comes down to personality and how much trust you put in the people on your teams.
I’ve seen some senior partners that barely work at all…
senior partners work in general the least in all firms....They don't do specific partner work as done by younger partners. Just high level voting/decision making activities
I think FDD WLB is way worse than M&A Tax .. From my convos with tax partners, it’s a mix, some guys started early and ended early, some are more chaotic and work till 1am every day and others are balanced ..
