The only way we’ll ever pay for all of this deficit spending is to raise taxes eventually. I think it’s likely all tax brackets will be higher in our golden years. That’s why I max out my roth every year.
Agree with PwC 1. Plus, without trying to be political, the progressive voice is getting louder in American politics, and social programs are likely to increase and those costs will have to be paid by someone. The most palatable political option is to have those programs be paid for by the kind of people who have the kind of wealth that comes from maxing out your 401(k) starting in the early 20s.
It genuinely does depend on what your future situation will be. If you put A principal in, and it grows at rate B before being taxed at C, your final value will be A*B*C. Roth vs traditional chooses when you multiply by C, and you want to optimize to minimize C — which depends on your current and future tax bracket.
