I am 23 weeks pregnant with my first... And I'm not feeling baby kick. Should I be worried? The internet says you should feel the baby kick between 18-22 weeks, and to call your doctor if you don't feel anything by 22 weeks. All the online forums say they felt their kid kick at like 16 weeks. Additional context: At 20 week ultrasound, she was moving fine and the ultrasound tech was surprised I couldn't feel her then, which is why I haven't been worried until now...

OP: Do not panic. I had anterior placenta, and started feeling legit kicks around 25 weeks. Before that I felt slight movements which I am quite confident was gas... Your 20 weeks anatomy was fine, and thats a very strong signal that everything is going well. I know how scary this period might be but patience is your friend here, and as everyone said just go for regular visit for heart beat monitoring. Good luck!

I had anterior placenta and didn’t feel the kicks until about 28 weeks. My doctor wasn’t worried and also Initially it feels like flutters and easy to miss. My baby was also very tiny when he was born

Did the ultrasound show a placenta in front? I have one and it took me nearly 25 weeks to finally feel her. So I wouldn’t panic just yet, momma! :)

I agree that you shouldn’t worry at 23 weeks. Your doctor and nurses should be there for you to calm your nerves. Call them and tell them and see what they say. Whenever I’d get nervous about something my OB would bring me in for an ultrasound just to be sure. There’s never a silly reason to call.

like

Haha yeah, my OB would take me but every time I've showed up for an appointment it's been 2-2.5 hours of waiting past my scheduled time! So I only go in if I *need* to haha

If I remember correctly, those early kicks feel more like butterflies in your tummy, not full blown kicks like later on.

Do you have an anterior placenta? That’s often a little later to feel kicks.

First pregnancy I had anterior placenta and didn't feel many kicks at all (flutters around 26 weeks), and started to feel kicks on my sides more consistently after 30 weeks. For first pregnancy it is sometimes really hard to feel the movements. I remember a description of holding a ziplock plastic bag filled with water and a goldfish swimming inside, that's how subtle the movement can be :) Currently 24 weeks pregnant with my second and I feel movement intermittently but this time my placenta is posterior. I felt flutters around 18 weeks and more obvious movement around 21-22 weeks, though there are still stretches of time that I don't feel anything. I've had a couple losses so I also tend to get nervous but remind myself that I don't truly have a reason to be worried. One thing you could try is to lay down in the evening (for me 7pm and 11pm are usually when I feel more movement) and have a very cold beverage (ice water, orange juice, soda) and wait a few minutes to see if you notice anything. Agree with others that it's not necessarily a bad sign and people have varying degrees of "feeling" when it comes to movement!

Follow up - I am now 25 weeks pregnant, I felt baby start kicking at 24 weeks, and now she kicks NON-STOP. Even after all the worry about not feeling her move, it now happens so often that it's already starting to get a bit annoying! 😆 So in case there were other anxious mommas following this post... I am just one more voice letting you know that this turned out fine and I (and possibly you) shouldn't worry too much over stuff on the internet 😂 Thanks all for helping me feel better about this! One bit of anxiety gone!

Until you hit the 30’s. Then it feels like your uterus ninja is trying to escape and take down a few of your organs in the process. 😆

You should not be worried and continue to get heart rate checks etc with your doc. It’ll happen! 16 seems way too early to me.

My husband told me that he feels parenting our 2 yr old is a burden. He’s actually a great parent and loves our son but hates all the hard work that goes with it (wake ups / getting ready for daycare / sick days / tantrums). Neither of us wants to take a step back in our career to care more time for our son, and we don’t want the other person to either. We’re considering an Au pair, but I’m mourning the fact that we, and especially he, aren’t parents that love parenting. Anyone in the same boat?

Mothers, how do you keep your life going / live your life for yourself without having all your time sucked up by work and kids? I grew up with a doting stay-at-home mom, so I don’t have many examples of what balanced motherhood looks like. Also, it seems like American society erases your entire identity as a human being beyond “mom” once you have a kid, and I’m not sure how I feel about that. Thinking of having kids someday, but worried I’m too selfish to go for it.

My wife and I just had our first child and as she was waiting to be vaccinated (we went for her first shot on the way home from the hospital), we told both sets of parents to wait 3 weeks before flying to come see us. Understand that’s upsetting but her parents couldn’t handle it to the point that they stopped talking to her for three weeks half way through the pregnancy and then after saying they understood, flew to her sisters place (2 hrs from us) without telling us then called after..cont’d

Expecting a baby this summer. Should I still be looking for other job opportunities? 33 F. All of my friends are having babies. I get really lonely when they aren’t available because they are either tired from child rearing or are actively rearing their children. Happens every weekend, lots of evenings. On top of it, I feel outside of female work groups because I don’t have kids and just can’t talk about the things they talk about. I don’t know how to make this feeling go away, but being exhausted and putting my career on the line for a kid is not the answer. Anyone else?

Advise working with a coworker who doesn't "answer the question directly": I just joined a new company and I am starting to work with a coworker but I feel like he tends to deflect my questions all the time and he often gives a vague/BS answer. FOR EXAMPLE, I stepped in reviewing the list of deliverables needed for the project, I provided my input but instead of discussing the actual context, he would just gave me a bunch of historical background information. How do I "cut to the chase"?
