40 Indian male, 145 lbs. Never exceeded 150lbs, exercised 3X a week and was diagnosed with pre-diabetes (A1C 6.1%) a year ago. Was on meds for 9 mo, but have since understood my carb intake, exercise needs and testing regimen. I’m off meds for the last 3 months. A1c is at 5.5%. You can beat the disease. Just need to understand your physiology, be ready to make some minor sacrifices with carbs and stay aware of glucose levels (buy a good meter). The worst you can do in this state is to deny that the disease can happen to you, ignore and continue on your merry ways. Yes, stress from your work isn’t helping, but it is all surmountable. If anything, treat this as a wake up call and listen to your body Good luck (I mean it in a good way)!

I was on Metformin, the longest researched diabetes medication. The pill actually has some very good indicators for heart health and longevity. Some people have a few undesired side effects, but the body tolerates this medication better with time. Taking this pill is not a bad thing, but do not ignore the writing on the wall. You are NOT diabetic at 6.1 A1c but will likely become one if you continue down the same path. I check fasting glucose, post-meal and random as a set 2-3x a week. Gives me a fair understanding of where my A1c would be. I exercise 3X a week doing high intensity cardio for 45 min. Also back to playing badminton, tennis and some cricket over the weekend. Rest of the days, I am doing some yoga stretches and breathing. Also, don’t check your glucose levels immediately following exercise. You may see a spike, but in the long run, exercise helps with regulating your overall A1c levels

Sorry to hear that. How did you discover that you were diabetic? Through a regular health check?

I was diagnosed with diabetes when i was 35. A1C of 7.2 and fasting sugar of 180. Have been on low carb diet since then and a1c has been between 4.8 - 5.1 for last 10 years. As MC1 mentioned, blood test and experiment with food to manage carb is key. Add cardio/strength exercise where you can. There is lot of material available on low carb, keto diet and even indian versions of these diets. Good luck

Most of it is genetic. You don’t wanna beat yourself for it. Best would be to start consuming less carbs and look into low glycemic index foods.

Since WFH, I’ve become lazy and unmotivated, getting by with the bare minimum (sometimes working only 1-2hrs a day when clients don’t need me). I don’t like that I’m doing this and I’d like to get motivated again but I’m struggling. Has anyone been through this and what would you recommend?
