To paraphrase Drew Carey: “Oh, you hate work? There’s a support group for that. It’s called everyone and we meet at the bar."
You’re right, my bad
I hear ya. I’m in the exact same boat. The thing that’s really helped me has been to stop trying to find satisfaction/fulfillment in my work. I go in every day and give it my all but I don’t expect my job to make me feel good or feed my soul or anything like that. It’s a paycheck and one that I’m very grateful for, but that’s about it
AMEN
Unfortunately, you’ll probably age out of the industry long before retirement.
There’s this notion that we’ve been feeding young people for about 30 years that they’re supposed to find work they love doing, as if that will somehow mitigate the fact that going to work every day can really suck. It doesn’t and it won’t. And not all of us are fortunate enough to have jobs where actually enjoy the work we do.
It sucks, but some stuff you just do because you have to. This is one of those things.
I find that having money & money to retire is a strong motivator. Unless you’re independently wealthy.
I feel you. People think I have the best job ever. I’m good at it. I act like I like it. But it’s all meaningless to me and I don’t care. I just want to stack the cash for my later years.
Buy the book “playing with FIRE.” Incredibly motivating read with strategies on how best to stack cash so you can become financially independent as quickly as possible - maybe those thirty more years before retirement can be slashed in half
It helps if you genuinely like the people you work with
