I am 38 and recently relocated to Charlotte, NC. Been practicing for 2 years with my own firm in CA and was hoping to join a firm in the estate planning/real estate space to get more familiar with the marketplace out here. Seems like firms in that space want someone with much more experience (3-5 years) or are not hiring. When would it be time to throw in the towel and start my own practice out here? Was hoping to join a firm where I could make a community out here but prospects look bleak.

I’m in Charlotte. Would recommend you join the local bar and NCBA for networking. Real estate might be tight right now, most firms are downsizing because RE is slowing down so much with the rate hikes.

That is great advice, I am a part of the NCBA, Meck Bar, and several of the sections. Hoping to meet some great people that way.

Networking is the solution. You can also check LinkedIn if you can find some leads.

I’ve been activity looking for new paralegal roles but my last position was working in the public sector. Some have told me that it’s a pro, others have said that it’s a con. I’m largely applying for positions in the private sector now, and I’ve found that I don’t have many of the entry level skills like e-filing that employers expect. Is there any alternative to taking on a role that is completely entry-level to gain those?

I am trying to figure out how to switch to SWE. I have a masters in civil engineering and have a good background in higher level math. It looks like the better coding boot camps are quite expensive. The alternative is another masters in CS which is the same cost as many boot camps. Any recommendations on picking between a coding boot camp and getting another masters degree in CS? I’m looking to get into the best position possible after getting an education in CS (get a job quick and good pay).

I was offered $42k plus bonuses at the interview, but when called back I was offered $44.5k plus bonuses. I already accepted. Did I leave money on the table here?
