Many companies only offer maternity leave after you’ve been there a year. So you’d have to ask the hiring org at some point since sounds like that would be a deal breaker to your desire to accept an offer. You could wait till you have an offer before bringing it up, but could result in some wasted time. If you’re interviewing at well known companies you could possibly find out via some fishbowl detective work.
If you decide to make a switch, do your research. Some companies have “hours worked requirements” before you can qualify for maternity leave benefits. The company I work for only follows state imposed guidelines and you have to have worked a certain amount of hours to qualify for them.
First off, congratulations! 🎉 Do you work in a state that offers Paid Family and Medical Leave, such as CT, NY or NJ? Also, don’t forget about FMLA which offers job protection while you’re on leave (usually unpaid) You must be with your employer for at least 12 months and have worked 1,250 hours to qualify. If you change employers now, you will not be eligible for FMLA.
Also any idea about the change of immigration status? I am on F1 OPT STEM extension
Does your company now have short term disability insurance as a benefit? That should give you 6 weeks of paid time off
No they don’t have that
I work in a contract position at a client site. I do live in NJ
If your company has 50 or more employees go on FMLA. 480 hours of unpaid time off and your career is totally protected.
