What field are you in? You just need to be able to learn a product and have good skills in front of customers for demo purposes. Also strong tech acumen.

If wanting to be in tech as a sales engineer/solutions consultant, you would want to make your resume lean heavily into:

- tech skills/understanding
- speaking skills
- critical thinking
- ability to come up with solutions/ think on the fly - situational acuity.

I think your experience can still align well to SE roles.

I would just start submitting your application and doing a few interviews. It’s hard to find good people right now so selling yourself as a strong worker who can learn quickly can really be the key here 👍

First time celebrating Halloween ever (immigrant to North America)
What are trick or treat etiquettes when handing out candy? We offer the bowl, or offer just the amount we want to give away? What do you do if there are a bunch of kids at the door?
Also, how much do you give away? If they're minis, then several, and 1 each if full sized?
Do you give them just to the kids or to anyone who's dressed up, including the accompanying adult?
Why is distributing candy so stressful 🥲

Hi Everyone,

I just received an offer to work as an software sales representative (SDR) for
IBMs Z systems. I'm coming as a sales engineer in the cloud security space. Can anyone advise me on whether Z systems are something worth going into? Also what do the growth opportunities look like at IBM? Is there opportunity for lateral movement onto other teams? Not too sure how I feel about working on mainframes (Z systems) but they keep pitching hybrid cloud to me. IBM

How to deal with an overly paranoid family member? I've been working from my parents place for the past month and my brother recently came home for the holidays. Out of all of us, my brother is the most cautious, but to the point where he is paranoid. Like, he will wear 2 masks, doesn't see anyone, uses hand sanitizer after touching anything (like his shoelace), and doesn't use grocery store baskets (holds everything). I respect his habits and I've been pretty cautious (cont. in comments)

Currently interviewing for a pre sales SE position and part of the process involves giving a mock presentation and demo. I have been given access to a sandbox environment but not a ton of guidance beyond that. Does anyone who has been through a similar process have any advice to share? I don’t come from a sales/ pre sales background so this is new to me.

Hey everyone, French here. I’ve been coding for my all life (10-15 years) and have 6 YEO professionally (without internships). I feel like to move on in my career by upgrading to a SE/SA path. I always love problem solving and I am obsessed with detail. I don’t have any opportunity in my current company, so I am wondering where I should start to make the transition. What skills do I need? I feel like needing more responsibilities and having a valuable job.
Also, any ref?

Thanks everyone!

I have little to no exposure to sales engineering. Total comp now is ~150k while the SE opportunity OTE comp alone is ~220k with 170 base. Is this a good field / salary?
