I know this doesn’t answer your question, but what company do you work at, if you don’t mind me asking? I’m looking to move into corp dev soon. Overall, how do you like it?
I’d prefer to keep my employer private, but Corp Dev is great. You get the intelligence of bankers but much better culture. All of my co-workers left banking for a reason. Hours can be long but 8-5 is typical.
If you're confident in your abilities, you don't have to have the exact same background as your colleagues to be successful
I think if you network well you can make it happen, did you go to a top school for undergrad? There is also the M7 MBA route if you can afford it, or your company pays for it!
I think it that’s your plan, some patience and a promotion or two will get you there

Corp dev to PE is difficult and you will likely need to take a non traditional approach to recruiting. Banking would make it a lot easier
If you can avoid IB, then you should bc it’s a pain in the ass. But yes, if you’re comfortable with LMM, you can probably finesse your way in with corp dev
It's not necessarily a requirement to have a banking background to transition into the PE/VC world, but it can be helpful as it's a common path for many people in the industry. But given your current role in healthcare M&A and the fact that you're already working in corporate development, you may not necessarily need to make the transition to banking in order to move into the PE/VC world.
