It was a cold call to the firm and I am the only one who handled the file. The new firm does not do this work. Current firm does. Overdue on bill. Current firm said they don’t want the client.

I was laid off last month but now in the final interview stage for two very different opportunities.

First opp is a digital agency and they asked if I’d consider a part-time contract gig with the “goal to hire” in 60 days, depending on the COVID impact. So no guarantee for a full-time offer. Second opp is a client side marketing role at a publicly traded company that has been somewhat recession-proof. Culture is very corporate and a bit conservative (not creative).

What would you choose?

Our firm doesn’t have anything that is standard or used at all, and while some of us are starting to venture into using Microsoft Teams, I feel like there are so many tools out there and we could be doing things way more efficiently. Thoughts on sending/receiving handwritten markups to opposing counsel? Especially when borderline illegible? Every time I receive one of these I can’t help but think the attorney is lazy and rude. My client should not have to pay for me to decipher your writing.

My 13 month old goes to daycare 4 days a week, and from next week will go 5 days a week. My mind knows this is not a big deal, but my heart is troubled. He is growing up so fast and now I will have 1 day less to spend time with him, but on other hand, wasn’t able to get anything done! Fridays are no meeting day at work for me, and usually a very chill day so I was able to manage him all alone as husband is in a busy project and has meetings all day, but nothing was getting done on home front!

Gov attorney, 8 years out of law school and will make over $100k for the first time this year. Gov benefits are great and WLB is amazing (I have a wife and child). We are less than 2 hours from all of our collective family now. I have an offer with a small firm I am highly interested in. $165k base + bonus for only 1800 billable hours, but it is 8+ hours from our families. $90k in student loan debt left. Am I wrong for wanting to take the money?

Is it ever worth responding to a recruiter email to interview with another firm when you’re content with where you are? I honestly have no real desire to lateral (I like my firm, like my bosses, like my practice areas), but I’m in midlaw and often get biglaw recruiting emails relevant to my specialty that pay market that leave me curious.
