I am a new consultant and have quickly learned that my lack of skill in Excel is hindering my ability to get staffed on client projects. It continues to be a feedback point for me. Take a udemy course

like

Also I know that my company offers free Udemy trainings. Check your internal firm resources first to see if there are any free training providers.

Udemy is great, and they are currently running a big sale on their courses. I would also skip VLOOKUP and just go straight to index match

like

XLOOKUP

Find a buddy/mentor a year or two ahead of you and try to learn from them

It’s pretty easy to pick up, don’t worry. Agree with EY1 - Udemy is an excellent source, and there are also NUMEROUS excel power user forums and websites that you can browse. You can figure out how to do anything in Excel with 10 minutes and Google.

like

Totally agree, though I think google’s usefulness increases exponentially with a decently solid mastery of basic skills. Then you can do anything with it!

I made sure to get promoted to Manager quickly and could outsource excel tasks

That’s dangerous if you ever need to turn something around quick or make sure what you are submitting is accurate

In order:

1. Learn your Excel shortcuts (Alt+)
2. Master basic formulas: AVERAGEIFS, SUMIFS, INDEX MATCH, VLOOKUP
3. Get good at displaying data really fast (line graphs, bar graphs)
4. Learn better formulas that are more appropriate for your specific work load: INDIRECT, OFFSET MATCH

Then suddenly, you’re a pro!

Google
Seriously this is how I learned. Every time I didn’t know how to do something, I’d google it. Then practice.
But I’m also happy to teach 1:1 for the right price

like

I read formulas in excel books made by other team members and wrote cheat sheets in one note like VLOOKUP(cell with dropdown list, whole data set, column number of data, 0) and that helped me

I find Google to be a pretty useful resource whenever I don’t know how to do anything

Hi Ladies,

I moved from one practice ( I was hired in and had previous experience for 8 years) to a different practice(I have 0 experience). I was put on a project in a lead and challenging position. I spoke to Leadership about the pressure and impact it had on me.I requested support with more resources but I was replaced on the project. This was looked upon as escalation. My promotion has been due for 2ys, now with this practice and situation it's tough. What should I do? Look for opp outside?

There is a requirement for a PLSQL developer in my TCS account who knows shell scripting also.
Benefits: On-site opportunity to Italy, no tcs dependency in project as this is for client team, best work life balance mostly relaxed work.

It has been one week I have been deployed into project but I am still waiting for my accesses therefore manager has asked me to put bench code in DTE.
Since in Staffit, it is already showing I have been mapped into project. Will it cause any variance if I will put bench code in DTE.

It’s Thursday 4 pm. You have a very bad creative check-in on a great briefing. A huge opportunity on a cool brand. Client presentation is tomorrow afternoon. Your ECD tells you another team already has some stuff but if you have stuff in the morning he would be glad to have a look. Do you push it on Thursday evening? Or do you let it slide? My teampartner and I had a different reaction.

Not really sure how this offer stacks up and I should exit or not. Got contacted by a recruiter for a fortune 50 retailer looking for Sr Manager of Supply Chain Strategy they are offering $145k+25%+1 year deferred 3 year run up 65% of bonus (so y1 0, y2 65%/3, y3 65%×2/3, y4-onward full 65% each year).
My CC is also my project lead and was told that he and the project recommended me for promotion to Manager and the other 2 discretionary. While not a guarantee for promo its as close as they come

Hi Fishes,
Its been 3 weeks I joined Wipro but not assigned to any projects. I got 2 very good offers(in terms of pay and role from Tech M and cignex datamatics) on the second day of joining Wipro but I declined it to avoid absconding in Wipro. Now I am really frustrated, can I wait for project or contact to the other companies HR(Tech M and Cignex) if they can let me join now. Is it good idea to abscond after 3 weeks of joining(Tech M HR called me 3 days back to check if I can join.)
