I am a person that puts in 12-13 hours M-F just to avoid working the weekend. I always feel this impulsive need to go and check who’s working weekends though and when I see most of the people online, I feel like I’m not doing enough. I’m a pretty High performing senior but I’ve been feeling like this for a while now.

As long as you get your work done, it won’t matter. Your managers know if you’re doing enough.

like

It's working preference. I prefer working some over weekend to have shorter weekdays. I can't stay productive or concentrate long enough.

like

You just have to let it go. As you have mentioned, you are a high performing senior, so why are you worrying or care about other people. They might be working less hours during the week, maybe they are slower performer/learner, maybe they work on certain weekend because of specific project, maybe they just turn their status as available on their phone to pretend that they are working.

like

Well are those other people in your office checking to see that you are online for 12-13 hours each day on the weekdays and trying to help you out? If the answer is no, then you should just relax with your anxiety.

like

Don’t check on weekends. Focus more on accomplishments and completing work and less on the number of hours. More hours doesn’t necessarily mean more productive.

I work 12-13 hours m-f and also work weekends lol

Come work for a mid sized firm - I left B4 and it was a game changer - worked just as hard (harder many days) but I am appreciated so much more (which I wasn’t at B4, and I was there 10 years)

Being appreciated is relative to the leadership. I transitioned from mid-sized to B4 and it was a game changer for me!

Come work at a local firm!! Great cost of living. No snow, earthquakes or hurricanes here. One of the fastest growing cities in the country. Challenging work, self starters preferred. No audit; tax focused. Help us grow. Need seniors 5-7 years. Much more relaxed environment than the Big 4, or even regional. Ability for a more balanced life. We help our clients from the ground up. Check us out.

16 weeks and so worried all of the stress I’m under is going to hurt the baby. Between work, my own scary (non-pregnancy) health stuff, the pandemic, my mom (who is a widow and lives alone, basically isolated by choice due to covid) is having health issues, and pressures to keep billable hours up, I’ve been having complete breakdowns. Today I spent almost the entire day crying and now have to make up the billable time this weekend. I really worry abt what effect this will have on the babe.

I just spoke with a software architect that went back to school to learn software engineering after law school because it was more lucrative and had less hours. He’s worked his way up and has the skills and authority to work 6:30am-10am and gets to work remotely. We discussed that results/outputs is better than billable time like in law and public accounting. Yet, his parents and others would view him as “lazy” but he does his job and makes a fantastic living. Time>Money and Results>Hours

But I want to switch to a better role & compensation.

I got an offer from Thoughtworks GGN as a lead consultant. Being a mother, I have anxiety about joining TW, since it is service based.

1. Bcoz of the recession and hiring is not for specific project, is it the right time to join TW or is it risky w.r.t job security?
2. How flexible is TW for WFH or it depends on the client?
3. How is WLB?

Please help..

I invited my SO to a work event where people are bringing a plus one. She said yes at first, then later followed up with an “if she can make it.” This happens almost every time I invite her to things, citing work. Last night I got really sad after that and couldn’t understand why she would never put me above work. She’s a dentist and has control over her schedule - can schedule treatment for another day or stop seeing patients at a certain time. Am I making a big deal out of a work event?

Anyone else just feel confused and lost in work during this busy season? Was promoted to senior in May and have Been dealing with a lot of work related stress and anxiety due to shortages on teams. On 4 accounts and 3 are without a manager. I feel like my teams just make my life a little harder due to having so many hands to hold and so many people under me to delegate tasks to. Not sure what to do other than just get out.

Quitting my job soon and am thinking about becoming a therapist/counsellor for lawyers and other high stress professions. Taking a poll on whether you would be attracted to the idea of a therapist who worked in biglaw and could speak to burnout, perfectionism and other mental health issues we typically face as lawyers. Thanks :)

Hi all.
Has anyone in IBM been on bench for more than 4 months here?
I have been on bench for almost 4 months now & have been getting automated mails asking me to get assigned to a project by searching one by myself, else necessary action might be taken.

And are there any chances of being straightaway fired based on these automated mails?

I would genuinely need an advise from someone who is aware of this kind of situation.

Thanks in advance

Any advice on what to do?

I’m handling erroneous IRS collection letters - for example, assess fail-to-file and fail-to-pay penalties based on postal mail delivery dates but not postmarked dates; assessing capital gain taxes on taxpayers whose income is within the threshold subject to 0% capital gain rate. These errors look like systemic failure (wrong formula). Now the Practitioner Priority Line is blew up, and the AICPA May 17 letter says only 2% of IRS calls are answered. I have recruiters from mid-level firms reaching out to me pretty regularly for tax manager roles, but I honestly don’t feel like I am ready to be a manager. I don’t want to be in a situation where I am unable to deliver. So my question is what does it take to be a tax manager at a mid-level firm? What experience and temperament do you need? Is it normal to not feel ready? I’ve worked 2.5 yr at a regional firm, made it to senior, now been in industry for almost 2.5 yr as a tax analyst.
