I am totally not type A and I think it makes me a better PM because of it, really depends on your work style rather than your personality I think!
Absolutely not. Find your style, and pick your right moments to shine. You will have to push yourself, but visibility at the right time is key (try kicking off a meeting with an agenda, for example!). Let people know you exist and have a purpose in the room.
Nah, you don’t have to be type A. PM is such a flexible role in that there are lots of different styles that are effective. There are also lots of different avenues to explore as you grow in your career. I’m not type A at all and I stayed in agency PM for around 8 years and then went into resourcing/ops and I feel like my strengths have made me really good in this area.
I’ve been there for 7 months and first time being a PM. They knew this when I was hired, so I was very transparent. I have digital paid media buying background
Focus on what you DO bring to the table that a Type A doesn't. Then make sure you play that asset as boldly as possible. You will stand out by functioning unlike all the others but that's also what can make you shine the brightest. Best of luck!
Definitely not have to be Type A. I have 6 PMs on my team, it includes 2 type As, fully admit they are the most exhausting. 😁. You are still finding your footing there and my guess the team is trying to let you know what they find important but not doing it in a way that makes you feel like a capable worker. You should feel empowered to let them know what's not working for you in the same way they have no problem pointing out what they think you are doing wrong. Is it possible for you to transfer to a different team? Give it a few more months (at least a year) and if it's still not working for you, find another agency.
It's not about the type. It's about your attitude towards your work. Just continue to do what your do best and never compare your progress with others.
The thing I love about about being a PM is being able to marry the “type A” with my love of creativity. You can shine when those two things come together to understand what a campaign takes and who the players should be.
