I am a second year associate in Biglaw and while I enjoy my job, I feel unfulfilled. Maybe it’s this weird working from home time, but I have been considering a move to the public sector, DOJ/USAO, JAG, or the Hill. Anyone else had similar thoughts? Acted on them?

4th year and this thought has been crossing my mind more and more lately. Actually... helping someone? Surely you jest.

Either that, or I’m gonna quit and go to med school and complete my lifelong goal of being ridiculously over-educated with the debt to match.

Second year here and definitely feeling the same way. I’ve told myself that I shouldn’t make any moves until after I can start going to the office again but I’m just getting so unmotivated to do this job.

Yes!! Left during the tail end of my 4th year and I believe I made the right decision. Must say it does make a huge difference if you're working for the public sector

Would agencies be open to people freelancing from other countries?

I’m almost done building the website for my social media agency. I’ll be doing B2B social media management. I’m stuck on my Portfolio page. For those who have launched their own agency, if I don’t have clients yet should I just create demo mock-ups of social media graphics or should I take on a few free clients (only creating 9 social media graphics for them) so i can post them on my portfolio page? Hope that makes sense

Think about this for a minute... why would you sell a book? Because you didn't want it anymore or it was beyond its useful life, kinda like an old car... it's old, rusty and needs more maintainence than it provides useful transportation, it's in the repair shop more often... everytime it goes in you find something else wrong with it? Plus, the prices the buyers are willing to pay are outrageous, by the time you get it paid off it's in the junk yard. No easy solution to building a sustainable business except hard, persistent work. I’m currently clerking at a small boutique firm. The work is real hands on and I interact with clients directly as part of my job. I just found out that one of the clients whose case I help manage is a partner at a V5 firm. Would it be wrong to use this as a networking opportunity?

Okay - I know some people like coming into the office 5 days a week and that is really terrific you enjoy that, and that working on-site is such a critical component of your happiness. Most of us don’t want to be here. When you brag about being here late, or brag about coming in every day, no one thinks you’re working harder than the rest of us, or that you’re more valuable than anyone else. Keep doing what you do, just keep it to yourself and mind your own anti-work-from-home business, Kthxbye.
