I am a second year associate who just left a firm because of a hostile managing partner. I have job offers and am extremely excited for this next chapter. However, I am nervous about letting my new firm down (may be ptsd from prior job and being told I was not a good attorney). Has anyone felt the same? Any advice on combating the feelings of low confidence? Thank you!

Same boat. Remind yourself, it’s clean slate. Past trauma shouldn’t govern the present and future. Stay organized and view it as a marathon instead of a sprint (e.g., take time to learn new things and don’t overload your work). You don’t have to prove anything to anyone.

Also same boat. My goal is to learn from what went wrong at my old firm and treat my new firm like a clean slate. My uncle gave me a speech about how it’s like baseball. Once you get up to bat you have to forget all the other times you struck out.

Same situation. Seeing a therapist and reading book called it takes what it takes. “The past is NOT prologue”

First of all It Takes What it Takes is a great book! Also in the same boat and nervous I’ll perform poorly at my new firm or they’ll think “I suck.” I also had a bad managing partner at my current firm but they apparently liked me enough to offer me more $ to stay. In any case, as others said, clean slate, head down, work hard and you’ll be great.

It's a clean slate - bring your best self to this job! You're in a hard spot, but you got out of a toxic situation and now you can thrive. Read the books, relax for minute, find a career coach, and nail this one!

Currently in the same boat. Yesterday a partner screamed at me “you don’t know shit!” 🙃

Just a thought, looking for input.

What good, and bad comes out of corporate lobbying in the US?

I've seen how it can shape some policies at a a federal level, but haven't done much research at the lower levels. All input is welcome. 🙂

Does anyone actually wake up refreshed and if so can you share your secrets? It doesn’t matter how much or how little sleep I get I wake up feeling like I got hit by a train. I run 3-4x per week and have lost ~20lbs in the past few months so I should be getting enough vitamin D and have a healthy diet. Don’t drink coffee or other caffeine (unless herbal tea on occasion counts). I wear an eye mask to block out light. Tried melatonin but it gave me nightmares. I feel like I’m losing hope on sleep

Hi,
I understand that this is not the platform to ask for the question I am about to ask, but I really need your help on this.
I am a software engineer with around 1 year working in a small software firm. Recently I have been asked to provide the architectural design/diagram for an already existing backend node.js project that I am the sole backend dev of, having never designed such things, I am really confused. Can anyone give me a reference to any architectural design of a nodejs project?

When your firm requires billable hours, how are they calculated? Actual vs realized (I.e. what you put on your billing sheet vs what is billed to the client). Does your firm differentiate? Which number do they go by? My mind is somehow not comprehending how some big law hours are under my small firm requirement?

First payment is weeks late and only made on demand. Month 2 not paid. Month 3 is overdue a few days. Should I file suit? Loop in my boss? Other options? It’s 2/3 my total savings.
