How to convince agencies to hire me as a junior or mid level?
I think my portfolio is in good shape. One of the interviews I had, they told me I had the best portfolio out of all the candidates. I end up being their second choice and they picked someone from Chiat. I think it is more of resume history and places you work at for the last 4-5 years than portfolio specially for senior position.
When I’ve been in this position I’ve been frank that I don’t mind taking direction and that I actually enjoy production work (at times I do!). I still enjoy doing the nitty gritty work, which I’ve noticed is rare in some agencies at that level
What type of work are you coming from? Like, where did you get your ten years. Pharma, or traditional agency stuff?
Traditional, digital and social content...
Ahh I see. Yeah a 5 year gap might be tough. If you can stomach it, I would not demote yourself to a junior. Knowing your value is a trait worth respecting, and any good agency seeing you ask for something so much lower than your skill set might be seen as desperate.
