I worked in retail management for 5+ yrs. And transitioned to consulting. I’ve now been in consulting for 4 yrs. Feel free to DM me if you have questions.
I came to echo VP1. Sales managers can make a lot if they have the right connections and are good at what they do. I know someone who is a sales manager for Home Depot (to large contractors in the are) and they make upwards of $200k.
Area sales or warehouse managers. I worked in corp marketing for a F500 retailer and our top sales managers and warehouse managers where making $200K +
Lean into sales experience and think creatively about different positions. I recently accepted a position in the university’s advancement department for one of their colleges. Will be using similar skills from sales experience. PM me for more specific details.
I was in a smaller mall retail store manager and pivoted to Exec Assistant (with an office admin gig along the way). You can also get into office support (reception, sustainability & event support) - in our firm emphasis on hospitality is huge. You get to use your customer service skills while learning office proceedures and software, and opportunity to grow from there into other areas. Not sure if you're at a larger place or more senior.
I can only speak for myself. Worked retail for several yrs in middle mgmt. One semester of college - long story..Moved to a different field but started in customer service/support, lead, then sales. 4.5 billion dollar international company. I reached your goal. Keep in mind OR equivalent experience in job requirements, I was taught by the best. My company actively helps employees meet goals/work towards management if that’s one of them. Tuition reimbursement included. Your goal is achievable 😉
I think if you can stick with it and get a general manager position, that’ll give you more pivot opportunities since you’ll have P&L responsibilities and KPI goals that can translate to other industries.

If you don’t mind me asking, what’s your range now? I’ve seen some pivot successes, but not sure what your salary expectation is
My goal is to be in the 6-digits.
What’s your salary now
I’d like to get to 6-digits
Good luck, my spouse has been trying for 3 years and can’t get called for anything that isn’t retail or low pay.
What online certs have they gotten to pivot careers?

General Managers typically have different KPIs to meet than managers at the store level, but maybe your company’s structure is different.
Do you own the P&L?
