I think it will be very hard. Can you try to hire a nanny for the times you are scheduled to work? Or try for even more reduced hours and hire a mother’s helper? Or if you’re friends with any of the other daycare parents, you can take turns with the kids. I don’t see how you can make it work without help. When our daycare shut down, it was extremely hard with just a toddler. I can’t imagine a toddler and a newborn together.

Thanks for the daycare parent suggestion. This might be the way to go as they have assumed the same risk levels at daycare and I know them.

You could hire a reliable nanny instead of daycare. I hear once you have two kids the cost of nanny and daycare equal each other out anyways.

I agree that it is probably worth looking for some backup care. However, these are weird times, and I think people will give you the benefit of the doubt. Hang in there.

I would suggest lining up backup care.

Backup care is the answer! I understand how hard it is to find though and typically for a sporadic schedule you have to pay more. My therapist told me about an app that helps you find help. I believe ( it’s been a while since I’ve seen her) they do background checks an vet all “babysitters” before adding them. Wish I could remember the name but it might be worth a google! 🤗

I'm literally in the same boat - 2yo and 4mo old! As soon as covid hit (when I was still pregnant) we got a full time nanny. It's the same price as sending 2 kids to daycare. It changed our lives. She's in our bubble now.

Are people really using “back up care” options provided by the firm (care.com) in the middle of a pandemic? Letting an essentially perfect stranger into my house without having proper understanding of their social habits just sounds like a recipe for covid disaster. There isn’t a decent nanny in the tristate area available because of distance learning. It sounds like my options are nil.

No way

Fulltime with two kids here. I have a nanny for my 7 mo and when my oldest is in not in a day care we take turns with my husband or I ask nanny to watch him for 30-40 min. I feel like having unattended kid around won’t get me the work done. I know - this is expensive, but it is temporary and you can secure your job as you will be more focused. My youngest is a terrible sleeper so i need help so I can at least get my work done. Suggest you to switch to full time (i have my colleague who works 4 days a week and simply has the same number of engagements with leas pay) as you will have more money to pay nanny.

So let me get this straight.... you are suggesting I go back to working 80 hour work weeks in busy season so I can afford a nanny AND daycare? I’ve gotta say that seems very counter intuitive. I also didn’t know people didn’t have nannys look after all their children. You do you but that seems crazy for our family.

Just downloaded this app and notice a lot of consultants making significantly over 100k. I’m mid 30s, just got my MBA a year ago and started a new job and still not over that six figure mark. Feeling a little behind in life- reading many 30 year olds are making 100k+. I have extensive experience in healthcare (pharmaceutical) in Tableau and SQL. What jobs or companies pay over six figures for Business Intelligence roles? Or should I be seeking different types of roles to make over 100k?

Looking to move to a state that will not mandate school vaccines for my kids. I need more research before deciding to administer it to my little ones. Would love a state that has great benefits and pay for teachers.
