You can be whatever you identify as welcome to 2021. Filipino when it’s time to get hired and white when it’s time for a raise. Race is fluid.

This thread does nothing to actually help Op, as they’re not asking for help with a choice - just to reconnect with their culture.
I’m Filipina and identify as Asian. Some Filipinos also or solely identify as Pacific Islanders. We also have cultural similarities to Hispanics in general and have a lot of Western influence in our culture from the Philippines’s long history with the US. We are a beautiful mix of cultures that’s difficult to neatly group with other ethnic groups. This is probably why Filipino is showing up more often as its own category on forms, etc. I would seek out other Filipinos to learn more about our culture. There are lots of Filipino social media accounts you can check out as a start.
Jo Koy!!!! Get a crash crouse on everything Filipino. 🙂
The fact that you Americans actually need to fit into these boxes is something I’ll never get.
Honestly who cares what your “genetic” cultural heritage is? Your heritage is that of your family, the one you were raised into
DEI groups are not exclusive to ‘what race’ or ‘cultural background’ you identify with. In these organization anyone is welcomed to join these ERGs. Why don’t you join both and see where you like it more?
You're a global citizen. Cherish and learn about all three. 😇

By definition, you would be considered culturally Hispanic, yes, as it is not a race but a panethnic term. Latino refers to someone with Latin American heritage.
Also Filipino here and consider myself Asian like RSM1 and PC1
Welcome to America
An example is it helps: I’m white, my wife is Japanese and we have a daughter. In Japan she’d be called ‘hafu’, but it’s much more fun and accurate if we think of her as ‘double’ instead
I can only imagine how you feel. I was lucky enough to grow up with a big Filipino family. However, I also grew up in a predominantly white area. I felt confused about how I felt about my heritage and spent a lot of my childhood wanting to be white. You might want to find a local Filipino association and start socializing with them. Filipinos are very friendly - they’d embrace you instantly, and, bonus, they’d feed you a ton of amazing food (make sure to try lumpia, pancit bihon, adobo, and embutido at minimum). You can also always reach out to Filipinos on this app (like myself ☺️).
SE Asian my man. Fellow Filipino American here
Hello my kabayan. I’ve always checked the Asian box. Pacific Islanders I thought were those tiny island nations like Guam.

Soooooo you were Asian up until 2020 and now you are a Pacific Islander (according to US definitions from the 2020 census). So congratulations, you’re new Disney movie is Moana
Filipino-American here, i refer to myself as Asian, but the Philippines is an interesting blend as we were colonized by the Spanish. We actually share a lot with Latin culture due to that. Even Tagalog has a lot of Spanish words! Easy way to discover more about your heritage is to find the closest Filipino restaurant or seafood city and eat your heart out pinoy style 🇵🇭
Hey there’s a documentary on Netflix called Found that you may identify with.
You're Asian
You can be whatever you want kuya/ate 🇵🇭. From a fellow Filipino :)
Thanks. Comments like this make my heart ache that I don’t know my cultural heritage. Thanks for embracing me. 🤗
My wife is Filipino. She claims Asian/Pacific Islander. She isn’t Latinx since she has Hispanic descent, not Latin American. So I’d start there. Also, from my experience, Filipinos are generally SUPER welcoming, so I’d seek a Filipino out and ask. There may be a local Filipino cultural center, or do a quick online search. Most tend to be very Catholic, so that’s a good spot to look as well. Disclaimer: These are generalizations based upon my wife’s family and friends…

Whatever makes you feel comfortable and think best represents you. I don’t think you have a wrong answer.
Are you looking to adopt a 35 yr old? Haha
Hahahahah sure. But seriously I can’t even imagine how you feel…feel free to reach out if you want to chat!
Take 23andme test to get some answers, but only if you’re prepared for some surprises ?
I claim Pacific Islander. Don’t worry if you enjoy hip hop, break dancing, karaoke, and basketball. Only natural.
