If they’re true friends then they’re probably just excited for you and really want to move up in life where you are and make around the same amount. I’m always transparent about money when friends ask, and especially when someone makes more it lights a fire for me to continue trying to be better.
As long as it’s not gloaty and everyone is humble about it/ constructive all around to try and help each other out I think it’s totally normal to be transparent about salary. If it irks you then just stay away from the convo, and if people are being standoffish then they probably aren’t true friends that are happy for your success
I never share my salary with any of my friends. They might have a idea but they don’t know the exact number. I feel like it’s something I don’t need to share with them.
I am certain I make a lot more than most in my social circle so I don’t bring it up
