I am an entry level nuclear engineer at an established nucl co. (been w them for 1.5y) and feel like I’m being underpaid for my role (73k/y). I was just contacted about interviewing for an entry level technician role at a different co., which compared to an engineer would be a step down imo. However, this role pays over 5k what I’m currently making (~79k/y). Do I ask for a raise to match this or consider the other role? Or Is there a different solution here?

I would recommend updating the resume and interviewing while the job market is still hot. Employers are recognizing that entry level employees will all leave after 1-2 years if promotions aren’t made. You could also pivot to aerospace/defense for salary offers outside of energy. There are quite a few programs going on right now that are desperate for engineers with 1-2 yoe

It really all depends, radiation transport analysis will always be more valuable to new companies with multi billion dollar contracts than a 75 year old nuc facility that already have all of their safety basis, SOPs a s WOs documented. If you think you’re being underpaid in any way (title or comp) you should apply for multiple jobs and compare offers. I wouldn’t make too many assumptions based on one recruiter!

Toronto banks: remote or not? They sometimes post jobs where it doesn’t say it’s remote, but no branch/ location/address either. Then you get an interview and they tell you it’s remote/hybrid(1-2-3days, take your pick)/on-site. So, if you work at TD, Scotia, RBC, could you let everybody know in the comments what’s the deal for each? Are you remote, on-site, hybrid of some sort?

Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations

My partner just got his first job offer in Canada (Toronto) as an Account Manager Technical Sales in oil and gas sector. They required 2-5 years sales experience. He has about 8 years of experience selling the same product in an Asian market. They have offered him a base pay of 68k plus some comission (they haven't said what percentage it would be yet). Based on glassdoor, it seems like this is the very bottom of their range. Does this sound fair just because he has no Canadian experience?

Do I push it any further?

Received an offer verbally from a company that is a big jump in salary from where I am now. I negotiated 10K extra in base, and 5K extra in bonus. Currently making 125K base, 30K bonus. They are now offering 175K base 20K bonus. They also declined my negotiation for sign on bonus to make up for what I’m leaving on the table by exiting my current firm. Think I should push it any further? I am ready to accept it personally.

Have an interesting be possible offer. The salary "might" be on the low end of my desire number, the health benefits won't start right away; takes 60 days then they begin on the first of the month following the 60 days. 401k contributions don't start until 6 months. PTO is only 10 days plus a number of company holidays.

Other than more base salary, are the things negotiable, like more PTO? What about also basking for compensation to cover Cobra payments during the transition phase?
