I am an HR Administrator with almost 3 years of experience mostly dealing with all phases of recruiting, database management, and employee trainings. I recently applied for a role called Senior HR Partner. I honestly applied for the heck of it thinking I was probably not going to get called as I am more on the entry level Junior side. Well they called... and I am reading the whole job description word by word and it honestly intimidates me. I feel like I am under qualified. Anyone relates?

I think there will always be parts of us that feel underqualified, especially when reading extensive, detailed descriptions for new positions that seem to be above our qualifications. But they wouldn't have called you for an interview if they didn't think you were capable. Take the opportunity and use it to learn. It will be a great experience whether you receive the position or not.

As someone who has been applying and getting nowhere. Do it! Ask them what infrastructure/ support is in place it you get hired. No will hire someone and want them to fail. Thing can learned. Be confident you got this

If this helps at all, I was placed as a director after just 1-2 years of experience as a senior generalist (at best). The learning curve was steep but who really qualifies 100% before getting the job? Let the challenge and a bit of pressure that comes with it to drive you and motivate you. Don't sell yourself short at the interview. I'm not saying fake it til you make it.. just know you'll eventually make it.

Sometimes we are our worst critics. Give yourself credit and give it everything you got! Best of luck!

This has happened to me before. But if you got an interview, trust you are capable. You have got this.

Considering jumping ship laterally from an HR Consultant role to an internal HR Consultant / HRBP role. However, mgr has confirmed that I am up for promotion at the end of the year. I want to be an HR generalist, but I am afraid I may have to take a step back in order to do so. I’ve been in recruiting and the talent management sector of HR for 5+ years. Now, I want to step into a generalist role, but realize I lack some aspects of experience that I maybe could have gotten as an HR coordinator. Do I need to take a step back/laterally move before becoming a generalist? I have my PHR. Thank you!

SPHR exam- has anyone ever been “randomly selected” for an application audit?
