I am an RN with a total of 11+ years of experience on hospital and corporate RN insurance accounts. I was away from bedside nursing for 10 years. I recently accepted an offer at a mid-city Rehab facility to reintegrate myself back to bedside practice. The institution offered me a $40/h rate. Is this a good offer?

Depends on your location. Also, in my experience going back to the bedside they only take into account your total years bedside experience into your pay, and consider less the time as an RN off the bedside. Never sat right with me, which is why I take whatever I hear from the HR recruiter with a grain of salt.

You can always negotiate, never accept the first offer. I always ask $3 more, to give room to negotiate.

If this is a rehab skilled nursing facility, yes in my experience that is a good hourly rate especially after not being bedside.

like

I am an RN with 1 year of experience in the Albuquerque area and this is my rate.

like

RNs can make twice that.

like

It makes more sense to return to bedside via contract Staffing or PRN within that Rehab if the pay is too low for you. And yes, $40 is low

Thank you. This is an eye opener. I was never really that assertive to bargaining, but I know I should. I just don't have any idea since it's been a while since i was away from bedside, and it's like new for me to get an offer and have another interview.

like

Away for 10 years and they are giving you 40?
Yeah, it is a great offer considering you will need your hand held.

like

Thank you, appreciate the input. I'm getting more info and will be using it to bargain better on my future offers.

That's too low for me. With more than 11yoe, you should be making twice that amount. Did you negotiate?

like

What city and state do you make twice that as an RN unless you're travel or contract? I'm moving. Lol

Are you referring to mid cities as in Bedford and Euless area?

...if you're in the southeast

I feel that as a corporate lawyer, you’re mostly doing the necessary details to carry out someone else’s decisions (= EG the boring part of business). The most "strategic" advice you give is perhaps advising on a choice between transaction models.

Would only a law degree and big law transactional experience be sufficient to go into more traditional business roles?

Nursing Unions. What’s your thoughts? So we just got a contract agreed on and let me tell you, these pay rates are pathetic. I’m looking at a whopping $1.50 increase, barely enough to cover dues. It will take 2 full years for my pay to increase 5%. Zero consideration was given to inflation since the pay scale was agreed well over a year ago. And they sliced the bonus rate by 50%. I usually work 2 bonus shifts a week so I’m actually going to make less money now 😞
