I am at a boutique firm and primarily work with two partners. With one I feel like I love what I do as I have autonomy, client contact and am not afraid to screw up. If that continued I can see myself staying at this firm for the long term. On the other hand when I work with the other, I am not in the loop on anything, feel like an idiot and wonder whether I’ll be around for long. To keep it short I am a non traditional 2nd year associate who was a non-atty in the same industry for 5 yrs prior.

Definately. I experience this too. What I’ve done is point blank ask how I am doing and I usually get candid feedback. Most of the times they think I am doing good and it is more of their particular style than them not trusting me. My advise would be to just ask them. But over time gradually work more and more with the partners you like since this will make your time there that much more enjoyable,

Yeah I already screwed up a few times with the other partner last year although it was with limited supervision from anyone where that should not have been the case. Part of this may be that they added another experienced associate to be a go-between which effectively “demoted” me but being ignored or out of the loop is also frustrating.

Cont’d - I should mention I had pre-law school experience as well so older than most in my position. That may be playing a role in how I am feeling but even understanding that I am at the bottom of the totem pole, this feels like it’s getting old fast.

Anyone else feel this way working with different groups/partners?

Hi! I just passed the bar and I’m passionate to become an environmental attorney. The problem is I don’t have much experience because I took an accelerated edu track where I was still taking classes in the summers instead of getting experience. Should I give up and just succumb to a big law tort firm? Thxs!

Looking for thoughts and opinions about HR involvement in employee promotions. More specifically passing up an experienced employee for not having a college degree. We have an employee in our office, who applied for a promotion and despite having a degree, would be a perfect fit. Hey guys, I’m a freelance broadcast producer and I’ve spent most of my career working for larger agencies. I’m doing something for a smaller agency and they want the production company to hide costs in their bid and then have production bill the client the inflated amount directly and pay the hidden costs to the agency. The agency is calling it a “consultation fee” but client just thinks production costs more. Is that common and I just haven’t experienced it before? Or is this a big red flag?

Love when reps email me saying they’re disappointed they didn’t make the plan this time for a client we haven’t had in years. Maybe it’s because you don’t pay attention? I didn’t even RFP you...

Please suggest based on your experience.
