I am at PWC with a 170k base + 30k bonus and I am pretty satisfied with this compensation. I keep reading that B4 pays low but I don’t feel like this is below market - am I missing something?

Would be more than happy with 200k, don’t focus so much on above or below market but rather what allows you to live a life / live a comfortable life you want to live

definitely agree with this. Just trying to understand why so many ppl say B4 pays low (unless these people are always just comparing to Tech)

I’m at 120k with 3.5 years of experience. I agree..stop comparing yourself to computer science kids at FAANG. We make enough..

Yes you’re missing your years of experience, service line, speciality, certifications, etc for us to answer the question

That’s a great base!

I am also just now realizing that people don’t usually post when they’re happy with something…only when they are NOT pleased 😅 This could also be part of it

likesmartfunny

Correct. It’s the same with reviews for businesses. People are far less likely to give positive review than negative

Before partner I was making 140 base plus 25 bonus in LCOL at experienced director level. I don’t get the complaints either.

P2 - my Tax partner makes over $1M for sure.

So MBB?

funny

I think student loans may have a huge impact as well. Plus, B4 has a ton of audit/tax/non-consulting that seem to be worked as hard (and have busy seasons) that don’t get great comp in the beginning. I just imagine being fresh out of college, forced to live in NYC (or other expensive city), paying back student loans, getting paid $75k to work 80 hours during busy season. I would feel over worked and financially underwater with little long term career perspective. It doesn’t help that the internet/LinkedIn/social media make easier to stay in touch with that classmate working at McKinsey making twice as much (without ever actually seeing the sacrificed he/she is making to work there).

smart

True. When I started in tax 14 years ago I made 45k.

I make 165k base as a 1st year SC… based on LCOL city. I’d want to be at 200k as a manager or close to it

5 YOE, FS, data/cloud implementation focus

In 2005 - with your experience , I was making about 130K . It never felt wrong even though there were several people I knew who made a bit more. Comparisons are generally less useful

I wish I was at 170k base lol

Almost 5 YOE at 100 😅

That great for 5 yoe

280k plus 40% bonus, 10 years experience, at Publicis

When you’re in a more technical field and esp when you come in as an experienced hire, B4 phs pretty well. If you’re in tax/audit or a core business dept or have stayed at the same company for 4+ years, then yeah your B4 salary might seem super low compared to whoever came in new at your level.

See posts on here and on Reddit about people with horrible WLB. All my other friends in B4 are drowning in work. 6 months in... nothing too bad and everyone’s super respectful of my time. Am I in for a rude awakening at some point lol?

The only bad thing about leaving B4 is that now that I'm in corp fin,I keep finding holes and inventing controls to fix them...so I will soon be that client contact with too many fucking controls.
