Duane Morris salary for 3rd year in TX?
Does the title “senior associate” mean anything?
I do litigation in a jurisdiction different than where I live. Depending on your time zone, the time change can be nice. For instance, I start my work day by formal office hours at 10am my time. Being a night person, its really improve the quality of my life.
By contrast, working on east coast time and living in pacific time could be pretty brutal unless you’re a morning person and you can get everything finished in time to enjoy the office formally closing at 2pm your time every day.
Absolutely I do real legal work. I do the exact same work I'd be doing in the office, but I can start when I feel awake and don't have to commute. I like to work into the night or even start at night sometimes because the peacefulness of that time helps me focus and research/write better. I would say I am more productive at home BUT I do miss having closer office friendships etc. On the flip side, there is limited support staff drama/meddling and fewer instances of petty drama between attorneys/staff members, etc. So, that's nice.
I appear in court regularly and have done probably at least 15-20 full hearings/trials by video since 2021. My clients like that they aren't spending money for me to drive back and forth to court. Paper exhibits have decreased with the share screen function on WebEx and the clients like that they aren't spending as much money on exhibit binders being prepared and printed.
All in all, I do not want the remote system to change. I feel it works very well for civil matters (non jury matters). Criminal on the other hand, at least the trials I think should be in person. I think a remote jury could get hairy.
Enjoy your new position, more money, and more flexibility!
Hopefully it's a position where calendars are visible to others. I work for a company 2 time zones behind me, and I just block time on my calendar for dinner prep, picking up kids, etc. Every now and then something comes up and I have to do a call, but it's rare. Ask if they have regular standing meetings/calls that you would be a part of.
