Been at small, regional, and now mid-tier per the accounting worlds designation. Haven't been big four but deal with plenty of big four people. My experience is it varies by office and department. Each job experience is really its own.

I'm at a B4 and even as a staff 1 you can comfortably walk into a partner's office anytime of day. I can only speak for my service line though - not sure if other groups are as tight knit but I'd like to think so.

Just go for it and network!!! People experiences are alway different

Make your decisions off what you want in life. Accounting will always be there. It might not make you the richest person in the room but you can do what you want and afford the twenty Starbucks on your new metro city block.

All relative. Where are you coming from and how big is your current firm?

Are office culture in bigger cities less collaborative? are partners and sr managers less approachable in B4? etc?

I am in a small mid-tier and in one of its smaller office (about 100 people). Right now I can just walk into any partners office without an appointment and everyone in the office knows my name. I also come and go as I please... what is it like in a B4? will there be significantly less autonomy? would coworkers be backstabby?
