I am current working in a tax technology group even got my CPA. I just finished 1st year on the job found out I hate the tax and accounting and enjoy it a lot more when I code in VBA, writing SQL script etc… I enjoy coding and want to get into software dev and escape the busy season hell. Anyone has successfully transition to such role? How did you do it? Quitting decent paying job to study full time for a job that is not guaranteed is daunting.

Take a sabbatical from work perhaps. If you've been with ey for quite some time and your team is quite nice you can get about 3-6 mo th break from work( ensure you have enough saved for this time as it will be in loss of pay ).
Once you feel you've studied and are prepared to crack interviews try internally (IJP) for a role wherein you'll be coding more.
If you get into it and gain some experience there you can switch easily to another company ( something on the lines of core software development) with that experience on paper :)

What should I do? Should I be worried? I am currently in tax advisory. I’d say over 1/2 of us have not been at utilization % the leaders wants us to be at. Just seems across the board billable hours are down. Some of us are getting loaned out to the tax compliance team. Yet our group is still hiring folks?! I feel as if partners/senior managers are just unhappy with the talent they do have and are fishing for better. Am I way off?

This might be a long shot but I'm looking for a volunteer who is trying to break into a federal career. Maybe a transitioning veteran, recent grad, or career-changer.

I'm pursuing my master career coaching cert and need to do a recorded 45-minute session. You don't have to be identified if you don't want to.

The single session is all I'm asking but could certainly turn into a longer lasting coaching relationship (at no cost), if you like.

2. home base salary and have my expenses paid for

I know that's depends on the amount I have to travel (and potentially stay) but at the moment this is unknown. Past 8 months was just twice a month + 2 nights stay.

The only thing I know is it won't be every week, the return trian ticket is about £80-100, depends I could plan ahead.
