Hello, I really need your help. I am a mom of two, boy who is turning 4 mid September, and girl who will turn 1, their birthdays are just 3 days apart (Friday and Monday), we recently moved to Seattle from NJ, and have some cousins and friends in Seattle, only one cousin has kids, rest all are just recently married, I am not sure how to plan the birthday party, we would like to invite our family and some friends, would be around 25-30 people. Baby girl’s first birthday and toddler boy (contd)

Diapers, wipes and formula (if using) also: boppy and hatch. If people don’t like any of the items you add they will just buy clothes. So I wouldn’t worry about adding a bunch of low priced items.
That’s a good point - I am hoping that a few people will go in one of the larger gifts together but I am grateful for anything we get, obviously. I appreciate your help!
I really liked having a little duck that beeped of the bath temp got too hot or too cold, magnetic me pajamas, pump parts, portable white noise machine, portable fans, crinkle books, plastic bibs (I think daycare asked for 6 of them!)
Thank you so much! I added these items to my registry - really appreciate your help!
Nozebot nose vacuum, nose frida, a good humidifier, lots of saline spray, baby Tylenol, baby robe…coming off a bad case of RSV and all of my favorite products are currently health related.
Hope your baby is recovering okay. We got hit last month.
One thing that I suggest that many people don't think of is a waterproof mattress cover for YOUR mattress.
Even if you never co-slept with your baby (highly recommended not to, but many women do, no judgement) - your baby WILL end up in the bed at some point for some reason. Many people end up changing their baby's diaper on top of their bed, you may do tummy time on your bed, or just hang out there during the day.... When my son had a stomach virus and ended up throwing up everywhere, I was very glad that my mattress was protected.
I agree with this. Our baby has a bedside bassinet and he peed during a diaper change. It got all over the mattress because it was connected to his bassinet.
Muslin swaddle blankets double as burp cloths, car seat mirror, nursing pillow, diaper genie and refills, diaper cream, blackout curtains, baby hangers for tiny clothes, humidifier.
A wearable breast pump is essential.
I also recommend satin crib sheets to help prevent baby’s hair from falling out.
How about some things for the future — toddler utensils, plates, bibs with a pouch to catch food (we like the OXO ones). My mom kept encouraging me to add more to my registry for her friends and I felt like I was scrounging for inexpensive items, but we use these all the time and it was nice to already have them on hand! Also if you plan to breastfeed, milk storage bags. (If you end up not breastfeeding or needing to store, they make great single-portion freezer bags for soup, etc. 😄)
I didn’t do a registry or a shower but made my own list of things to buy based on a PDF that you can download from Karrie Locher’s website that I thought was helpful. Things I really wish I had on hand after having my baby and totally used in the postpartum period were the Frida mom recovery kit, having extra pads and more underwear that was pad friendly, nursing bras, milk pads for my bra, nursing tops so I didn’t have to sit around with my top half exposed all day, “my breast friend” pillow. Also definitely recommend having baby first aid supplies like gas drops, Tylenol, teething gel etc all lined up so that you have them handy when baby needs them. We used the Ollie swaddle more than any other. Also we didn’t have any newborn diapers when we got home and needed to send someone to get them (thought we would only need size 1) and ended up buying newborn clothes too via Amazon while still in the hospital.

Hatch baby rest!
If you are a “have baby-will travel” family, a Pack n Play is a must. We have family everywhere and it definitely came in handy.
Somethings I would highly recommend based on personal experience (I took the advice of many of my mom friends):
- Muslin burp cloths and blankets - you will need many because spit ups are very common.
- bottles for milk / formula - we avoided plastic at first but daycares only accept plastic.
- many onesies - cute clothes are great, but the 6 - 8 pack onesies by gerber / carter are very practical for daily use. It helps to extras to avoid doing laundry. Get ones with zippers because if you mess up the buttons, you gotta redo. Get ones with attached mittens for the baby when younger because their nails grow quickly and they can scratch their face.
- swivel chair to feed
- changing pad
- diaper bag
- nail trimmer
- nose frida
- Boppy lounger
- pack n play - if you plan to stay over at a location that doesn’t have a crib (Airbnb, friends / family), it helps to take along foe the baby to sleep. My kid didn’t like to be in it during the daytime but we also bought it much later.
It really helps to get some additional items such as swings, bouncers, little chairs, pack n plays so you can get a little break from carrying at home.
What we really liked:
- fisher price swing
- jumper / bouncer
- boppy lounger
- a little rest chair that rocks - it helps when they are around 6 months and can hold the bottle on their own.
What I did not like / barely used:
- breastfeeding pillow - many swear by it, but I used it twice and didn’t enjoy it
- baby sling - the soft cloth to wrap baby against your chest. Pain to tie up and I probably wasn’t doing it right. Recommend something sturdier such as ergo baby - but we didn’t use that as much - preferred using the stroller.
Hope that helps!
