What do you guys do at the end of the day? I teach in a middle school self contained class. Grades 6 to 8. At 2 the kids come back from gym and then I have them until 4. I have been teaching students with special needs for 21 years now. The class size used to be 12:1. Now it’s 15:1, but you can have up to 18 students with the variance. Now my Principal said that you can have up to 19 students!!!! Is anyone else noticing that the self contained class is getting larger?

I have been working in special education for 12 years ; 8 years at the high school level and 4 years at the middle school level. I love my kids and what I do but I am seriously burnt out with all of the extra work that we have to do in addition to teaching. What are the pros and cons of working in Gen Ed?
