I am currently in Audit, I was wondering how many years of experience do you need to switch into TAS at Big4 and does audit title matter (associate vs senior associate)?

A good time to do the switch is right when you make senior, as you generally transfer laterally to be a senior in the TAS group. Definitely voice that you’d like to do that early on (I.e. now), and try to start the process of getting an official transfer set up about a year in advance. If you get highly rated, the process will be much much easier.

Not true we have quite a few people from FS (assume that's the same as FSO). Maybe just try to brush up on inventory and SaaS specific nuances on your own, but should be fine.

i switched firms right as i was getting promoted to senior - i was at EY before and they need you to have 3+ busy season to even apply

techincally yes but i left just thereafter

Having a busy season as a senior helps exponentially. Project management is key in TAS and having that busy season as a senior let’s you grow those skills. Honestly, some of the most successful people I’ve seen have 2 busy seasons as a senior before jumping.

Yeah I mean, it’s really a case by case basis, especially if your transferring internally and you have built up relationships and have your review to back up work. It’s definitely not impossible, I would talk to your career coach.

Been in a regional public accounting firm - risk advisory/internal audit for 4ish years now. I like the work but the pay is terrible. I see seniors making a whole lot more than me. Feel like I'm overworked and massively underpaid. Thinking of switching jobs, but still debating on whether to stay in public accounting or move to industry. Any advice/thoughts?

Are there any pros to staying at a company and getting laid off, vs. proactively looking for a new job and quitting before it happens? I.e., financial (possibility of receiving severance or any other benefits). Or is being laid off just all bad? I don’t know if my job is at risk — I don’t believe it is — but my agency lost some clients and is talking about cost cutting to be safe and get ahead of it. Fwiw, I’m ready for a change anyway.

My partner lateraled as a senior associate (now a 7th year) and hasn't yet received clear direction on ascension to partnership. Curious what your firms have told you about pathways to partnership? Are you eligible to be made partner as a 9th year? What factors go into consideration? Are you expected to generate business before you achieve partner? How much?

I started at a new firm this year in January. I had a billable goal that was given to me mid year of around 1750 house for the year. I am nowhere near that and definitely will not meet the goal. I had so many non billable hours I was forced to take when I first came in. I worked my ass off in busy season. At my previous firm I never fell short of hours as it was B4. This firm is mid sized and more focused on WLB. My question is how bad do you think this will affect my comp??
