I am currently in litigation firm. I’m tired of firm life. I am looking into moving in house. I am seeing a few insurance companies looking for litigation counsels. How is a litigation counsel role different from claims adjuster who manages outside counsels?

Many of those positions are not "in-house" as you may be imagining but rather may well captured firms working with one insurer. You may well be litigating ID cases just the same. Ask questions and keep your eyes open to make sure the opportunity is what you think it is. I do know people that are quite happy in such roles, but know what you're getting into.

My last agency hired back a ton of the people who were laid off (thankfully I landed a new gig, would not go back to that place). They decided to bring back 10/19 that were laid off. Unfortunately, they are notorious for doing this on multiple occasions. What are your thoughts on hiring back those you let go? And to clarify as a group we were let go not furloughed.

Hi Folks,

To those who are thinking of resigning without an offer, I seriously advise you not to do so. I resigned in July due to a hectic (you can call it toxic) work culture and was confident enough to get another offer. But nothing materialized, no calls, savings money almost depleted with the EMIs, hard lesson learned!

Please try to resign only if you have an offer in hand or you're financially sound enough to survive without a job for at least a year! Cheers!

Decade+ in and realizing I would rather be either in pure play brand consulting (like an Interbrand) or in consumer/culture advisory (deeper thought leadership, trends, consulting, like a Gartner or a WGSN ish) than stay in ad agencies working on campaign development. I feel like I am at a point where there are some skills or experiences those worlds require that I haven’t been able to “go deep” on, consistently in agency brand planning world.

Hey guys, I currently work at the big 4 and I am just not happy... I am not really a numbers person and don’t consider myself good at the job and I know I will be coached out in the next year... trying to schedule my next plan but not sure what to do... I studied finance in college but never really took classes in other areas. Right now I am between law school, MBA for a potential career in HR or Project Management.. and even considering optometry. Just curious, for others who transitioned in house from a firm, when did you fully realize/appreciate the benefits of your transition? I moved about six months ago and it’s taken some time to adjust, but I think I’m finally getting there. I have to laugh at how “busy” everyone claims to be all the time, clearly no where near law firm levels of busy. Just wondering what the light bulb moment was for others to think “yup, this is what I’d always been looking for.”

How do I leave in house? Serious question. I am young in my career and landed my first gig in house after being out of school for a year. The legal department is new but the company is 35 years old. The first year after I graduated I took on a compliance position. Now I am stuck being a jack of all trades and I only have 8 months of solid legal experience. Anyone found a way to overcome this and leave? I have had a terrible experience but I have learned a lot.

I started my first in-house role about 4 months ago and I don’t think it’s the right fit. I love the no billable hours aspect, but otherwise I miss the structure of being at a firm.
